Hello there! My name is August (ehh? ehh?! /silly). I am currently still on Hiatus but I couldn’t help but enter for this lovely little creature being design! 1. Full art: sort of WIP ~This is the official entry art I made. I’m not the best at humans but have been improving a lot, mostly due to motivation from seeing this design. The Wip part is the fact that I got so excited that after so much artist of many other human arts and some traditional art of the design I didn’t end of doing anything with, I lost motivation for this specific piece and wanted to focus more on Greek Mythology and the lore to tie this design and character into one of my current worldbuilding story. 2. A young orphaned fawn and pet of August named Sunna. Coming from the Germanic name of the Norse sun-God Sól. She was so fun to draw and honestly, I really wanted to use the care of a young deer as a help for August’s development 3. An icon version of the main art. Looks way better like this btw because I gave up on everything below this lol Anyway, here is some of the backstory I have come up for August, starting with a general description. August (they/it/any) is frankly just me. I genuinely debated the idea of the design being used as more of persona, so that might also happen still. Anyway! An important note is a brief summary of the idea of my book. Basically, it is a world where the scientific elements are replaced by a list of the 12 elements of nature (fire, water, earth, air, etc.) A few people in this world are blessed by an animalistic ability of either shapeshifting or even magic to weld the elements in special ways. The main characters are special because they hold both a specialized element AND shapeshifting abilities. August would be a side character that helps the heros of the story in both a mentor figure and friend. Genuinely, they are just a chill guy who cares deeply for all animals, as show by their specialised form of a deer to share a more motherly figure to properly raise Sunna, August’s favourite of the animals it cares for. They would be just a whimsical guy tbh and honestly, probably excitable when it comes to caring and learning about animals and the symbolism of those animals. For example, did you know that the original of Sunna was, yes, from the Norse Sun-God, but that idea came from the god Pushan, who was, too, shown riding a sky chariot, though Pushan was from Hindu origins. Pushan was also closely related to Pan, the Greek God of the wilds and shepherds which was often seen as the guardian of the Roman Fauns and Greek Satyrs, also sharing their appearance of half-human and half-goat form. Yes, faun is the origin of fawn, the name for young deer. Yes, that is how I and canonically August came up with the name. Also, note that I have been using the name August for both the design and character because I haven’t thought much about any other name. Mostly, the only other name I could see August using is the name Aether, which comes from the Greek idea of a fifth element of which the gods would breath. Basically it was special holy air. In Ancient Greek it is also thought to have meant purity, related to the innocent nature of this character, which i liked, or brightness, relating to the sun and deer thing mentioned earlier. It was also thought in Orphic myths that Khaos was born from the egg that lied in Aether (the place of higher purity). They also believe that Gaia, and a lot of the other primordial deities were all children of Aether rather than Khaos, which is pretty interesting! Yeah, I am just really fond of August’s design and loved the connections I could make into my own story with the design if I could win them.
