(This includes no AI!) ⟡ Do not feed my art to AI! >:( ⟡ Pelt/skin/clothing pattern may be simplified or slightly altered if needed. ⟡ You can change the personality and name of the character, but not the gender. If you want to change something and I haven't specified whether it's aloud or not, please ask. ⟡ You can change the species, but it has to be either a feline, human, or anthro. ⟡ You may use the bases. However, this is discouraged, as it lessens your chances of winning. ⟡ No copying, stealing, tracing, or any other forms of using my art is aloud unless it is for an entry. This includes the design, colors, and species. ⟡ You may enter for multiple characters, but you will only win one. ⟡ Each batch closes when there are at least 5 entries per character (exceptions may occur.) However, please note that an old DTA character will close when there are two entries for it, and there will only be a prize for first place. ⟡ This is not a requirement, but entries for the current batch (in this case batch 1) are preferred because the sooner a batch has at least 15 entries, it closes. However, you don’t need to do this and it won’t increase or decrease your chances of winning - it’s just fyi! My first shading on Scratch! Does it look okay? I have officially switched to bitmap. Midnight's Story A little kitten was born in a cave not far from a human home. The kitten was called Moon and often spied on the humans. "Why do they have the largest territory?" "Because they are largest, Moon." Months passed. "Why are humans the one's with all the territory? Bears are bigger." No matter how many times she asked, she would never be answered. The time came. Moon's mother, Raindrop, prepared for the time: the time when Moon would leave and find her own territory. "Moon, if you can catch the largest prey I've ever seen, bigger than the one I caught when I was your age, you will have the largest territory, the most prey, and the strongest family. If it's a rabbit, you'll be swift and strong. If it's a bird, you will climb trees. If it is a mouse, you will have everything you will ever need." Moon didn't need to be told twice. How exciting! What if she came upon something else? Like a snake? But even under the warm sun and in the tall grass, she wondered what her mother had meant. 'Largest territory? Most prey? Strongest family?' She realized she would have to provide for herself someday. She was eleven months old, already. But strongest family? "She's sending me away." The mouse was right there under her nose, and it was easy prey. She tried to smile and she thought of her good fortune. Maybe her mother would change her mind. She walked back. It was around dusk, and she realized she'd been hunting for hours. In the summer the heat had scared off most prey; the mouse she had found had been hiding in the shade. When she got back her mother was in the den. What is she doing in there? She wondered, licking her sore paws. "Moon, will you fetch me some water and some moss, some reeds and some wood? Oh, and I'll catch some prey in the meantime." Moon hesitated. How much time before it happened? As a kitten, her mother told so many stories. Could she remember her mother's story of finding a new home? She flattened her ears in dismay. Her mother was sending her away at midnight. "Moon," she said, cool air ruffling her fur, "I have made you a basket of reeds and wood. Here's moss for your den, prey to get you through the season, water trapped in the moss, and a few other things I've gathered." Raindrop was a loving mother, so she hted what she was doing. "Moon, you will no longer be called Moon. Just as I, Drop, was renamed to Raindrop when it rained during my ceremony, you, at midnight, will be be renamed to Midnight Moon. May you have luck; and never forget the size of your mouse." She smiled softly but sadly. "It was the biggest ever, my playful kitten." She nuzzled her for the last time, and sighed. "I love you, My Midnight Moon, and I hte this." She flattened her ears. Moon- or Midnight, as she was more often called, although she much prefered Moon- ran as fast as she could to the human's house. They had so much teritory they could relocate, she thought. She walked through a small flap. It smelled wrong, somehow. She saw wat was making the scent. A dog chased her through the house, and she had to burrow under some covers to hide. The humans set her gently down in the white room. It smelled of many animals, some sick. What did they intend to do, let her catch something? "No. I won't let them do this. They may be bigger, but my mother taught me how to fight and stand up for myself!" Turns out she escaped pretty easily. She scratched her handler (pretty softly, they were wearing soft gloves), ran out the door and hid. And waited. Eventually the place got dark, and she sniffed. No one's here but the animals in the metal wire rooms, she thought. She found an open window. It was midnight when she found it. A mountain. She saw beautiful moonlight- a midnight moon, she thought- cast upon the mountain. Close enough to the valleys and meadows below, high enough that there were good hiding spots. And then she saw the clearing on the mountain. There was a small ledge, and beyond it a flat area, big enough for several dens. There was a hollow rock and tree, plus several good mud den spots. This would do, she decided. She squeezed into the tree and fell alseep. Three months later, she had made the rock her home. She had learned to catch the prey. It was a little different than the "prairie" of her home. The humans had taken her far away, and she found it interesting. One night she came back late. She had been hunting and had found buried prey. "I wonder whose territory this is." "Mine, genius." "Yeah, it looks like a place you would choose. Mind if I stay?" Over the months, she took him- Forest was his name- to be her mate. They had kittens and decided to raise the family there and change traditions. "If they can fight well enough, they can stay." But the rest of their life was pleasant, full of adventures and troubles. Through it all, Midnight Moon stayed a playful kitten. "Miss you, mother."
