HERE Winter gave up his life, family, and home for Moon; he was literally exiled from his kingdom and made his parents, whom he wanted to be proud of him, hate him even more. Winter was only yelling at Moon because he was hurt about not knowing what do do with his feelings. He was taught his whole life that NightWings were his enemy and so he really didn't know how to deal with the fact that he loves her. Winter became a better dragon at the end of arc 2. In the scene when he and Kinkajou are catching scavengers together, you can see clearly how much he has changed. He is kind to her, no longer calling her a 'lazy RainWing' or whatever else he was taught he should treat RainWings by. And he feels remorse for how he treated Moon before this change happened, and before he was exiled and his parents were killed. Of course, that, too, matters. While he was adventuring with the Jade Winglet, he was practically being raised by them, instead of his abusive parents. This also helped him change. I have, in fact, found people who think there's something wrong with Moon, but my examples here are about Winter. After losing Hailstorm, he became even more upset, and he started to keep his feelings inside, making him not so nice; and when Icicle betrays him for Scarlet, he gets even more hurt. Generally speaking, if it weren’t for his tragic backstory and the horrible dragons he grew up with and was raised by, he would have been perfect for Moon. The fact that the ship isn’t canon just shows that it’s because of those dragons.
