Displaying Now | | V General Info: Fennec Fox Scientific name: Vulpes Zerda Kingdom: Animalia Class: Mammalia Order: Carnivora (Suborder: Caniformia) Genus: Vulpes Weight: 0.7-1.6 kg (kilograms) Genetic Info: Vulpes Zerda Relatives Include: Vulpes Vulpes (Red Fox, Entry #2222) Vulpes Lagopus (Arctic Fox, Entry #2212) Genetic Evolution: †V. Riffautae (7 mya - 5 mya( million years ago))*1 †V. Qiuzhudingi (5 mya - 3.6 mya) (Late Miocene Era)*1 †V. Skinneri (2 mya - ?)*1 V. Zerda (8 mya - Today) *1) This is the general growth of the Vulpes Genus, and may not all apply to the Vulpes Zerda strand in particular. Adaptations: - Fluffy tufts of paw fur to increase friction on sandy desert surfaces. - Thick, non-absorbant fur to deflect sunlight - Fluffy tail for insulation on cold winter nights. Habitat: Fennec foxes are found scattered along the northern to middle regions of the Sahara Desert. Some Fennec Foxes can also be found in Saudi Arabia, though very rarely. Theory: If the Fennec fox was placed in the antarctic, they might be able to survive. With the fur of their tails and a slight adjustment in diet to snow hares and small rodents, they could evolve to have heat absorbant fur and lighter fur, much like that of Entry #2212, V. Lagopus. Though they may struggle at first, they probably would eventually mate with foxes of the Lagopus species. This would create a crossbreed and probably make a new species. Log Complete! ...
