Random pattern generator with highly customizable parameters for 2D cellular automata such as Conway's Game of Life. Steps: - Press Space or the green Play button to generate a new random pattern with current parameters, or - Press R or the Shuffle button underneath to randomize all enabled parameters and generate a new random pattern. - Copy the last 2 elements in the Pattern list (triple-click to fully select one, or click and drag from the first to the empty line to select both). Make sure there is a checkmark underneath indicating the generation is finished first. - Paste them in a Life viewer that supports RLE format (use the clipboard for faster copy-pasting, or the multi-select method). (- The element that contains only the INT rule is for quickly copy-pasting it into INT-compatible software such as Golly.) Parameters: - Width / Height: side lengths of the generated rectangle - Symmetry (squares only take width as input) (check Notes and Credits for details): -> 0 = None (C1) -> 1 = Horizontal reflection (D2_+1/+2) -> 2 = Vertical reflection (D2_+1/+2) -> 3 = H and V reflections (D4_+1/+2/+4) -> 4 = Top left to bottom right diagonal reflection (D2_x) (square) -> 5 = Top right to bottom left diagonal reflection (D2_x) (square) -> 6 = TLBR and TRBL reflections (D4_x1/x4) (square) -> 7 = All diagonal and orthogonal reflections (D8_1/4) (square) -> 8 = 180° rotational symmetry (C2_1/2/4) -> 9 = 90° rotations (C4_1/4) (square) - Density: amount of cells that are alive initially. - Rule: the rule used by the generated pattern (can be OT or INT, and format doesn't really matter). Controls details: - Press the Pencil button next to a variable to manually set it to any value. - Press the green/yellow/red button to toggle wether a parameter can be randomized. -> Green includes everything, yellow is a specific subset, red disables randomization. - When randomized, some parameters have restrictions to prevent boring/extreme outcomes: -> Width/Height: 10-100 -> Symmetry: (green) 0-9; (yellow) only 3, 6, 7, 8, 9 -> Density: (green) 0.0-1.0; (yellow) 0.25-0.75 -> Rule: (green) each of B and S contains 1-20 INT transitions, excluding B01; (yellow) each OT transition has a 1/3 chance of being added to B or S, and B always contains 3 without 0, 1 or 2. Other controls: - Regenerate: You can change parameters like dimensions and symmetry, then press M or the Regen button to apply them to the current base pattern ("0 symmetry" pattern / Base list) without randomizing anything. If the new pattern is larger, the base will be expanded to accomodate it. - Daily: The daily pattern is generated by converting the number of days since 01/01/2000 into a binary 4x4 grid (works until about the year 2181). The size is the number of repetitions of the 4x4 grid for the side length of a square of these tiles. - Dark Mode: Toggle dark mode (inverted contrast) for the background, preview pattern and some buttons. - Scale: Adjust the size of the preview pattern (1x, 2x, 4x). By default, the scale is set to 2x and can display patterns up to 100x100.
