Oh god the hands... Oh god the shoes... OH GOD THE LEGS! Look, when I first heard that they were making a Sonic movie back in 2014, I was ecstatic! Finally, my favorite video game character was getting his own movie! I didn't even care if it was live-action, I was just happy that they were making a Sonic movie. As time went on, I kept getting more excited for the movie. They announced Ben Schwartz as Sonic, and even Jim Carrey as Eggman. That was super exciting! And then they released an animated poster for the movie showing Sonic's new design. And... OH GOD NO! What is this?! This isn't Sonic! It looks like one of those fan-made posters for a fake Sonic poster, except this one is real! They changed his shoes, removed his gloves, and gave him human legs! They also said that they're changing his eyes and that even SEGA didn't approve of it! SEGA approved Sonic Boom's redesigns, but they didn't like this?! The reason this... abomination is that Tim Miller, executive producer of this movie, said that he wanted to make Sonic look more realistic. He didn't think giving him the cartoony shoes or one big eye would work in the real world. HE'S NOT SUPPOSED TO BE REALISTIC! That's like trying to make Mickey Mouse realistic. He's not meant to be realistic! He's a freaking blue hedgehog that runs at the speed of sound! You think that stuff's natural?! Another thing they hinted on was the story. The story is just what you think it is: Sonic is taken out of his world and enters the real world where he teams up with a cop named Tom to stop Egg Carrey. So basically, this is Sonic X: The Movie. This is exactly what I feared. When I heard that this movie was gonna be live-action the first thing I thought was "please don't make this Sonic X: The Movie!" And that's exactly what they did! Please don't think I think this movie's gonna automatically suck just because of this, I don't. I still have high hopes for this movie and I'm still going to see it because I love Sonic! They could just take a real hedgehog and color him blue and call him Sonic and I would still watch it. But from the story to the lousy excuse of a redesign, this has crushed some of my hopes for this movie. If you want to see a good example of what a good live action Sonic movie would be like, and what Sonic could look like in live action, you should check out the fanmade Sonic short film made by Eddie Lebron. I just wished Paramount, Tim Miller, and the rest of the staff would've done something similar to that. Maybe they will. Maybe they'll change a few things or maybe the story is just not as detailed. Either way, I'm still excited for this movie even with the redesigns. I think the casting was a good idea, and I still think it has the potential to be somewhat decent. But I am still disappointed. Oh god no.
