when someone has a god complex, they might genuinely believe they’re more important, intelligent, powerful, or “above” other people They might act like they’re always right, think they understand things better than everyone else, refuse to admit when they’re wrong, or believe that normal rules don’t really apply to them Sometimes they might genuinely struggle to see other people as equals. They could become extremely defensive when someone disagrees with them, take criticism as a personal attack, talk down to people, or feel like they deserve special treatment They might also convince themselves that everything they do is justified because they believe they have a better reason, a higher purpose, or simply “know better” A god complex doesn’t always look like someone constantly saying “I’m better than everyone.” Sometimes it can be much more subtle. It can look like always needing to have the final say, believing nobody else understands you, thinking you’re the only person who can fix something, or assuming that other people are just too stupid to understand your perspective Some people with god complexes may genuinely not realize how they come across. They might have become so used to seeing themselves as the smartest person in the room, the victim, the savior, or the person who knows what’s best that they stop questioning themselves But having a god complex doesn’t automatically make someone evil or incapable of changing. People can develop these behaviors for a lot of different reasons, and recognizing them in yourself is actually a good thing Having a reason for your behavior doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take responsibility for it. You can be intelligent without believing you’re better than everyone. You can be confident without needing everyone to agree with you. You can be a leader without controlling everyone around you. You can know your worth without believing other people have less worth. And you can be wrong without that making you worthless. Sometimes the healthiest thing you can do is realize that you’re not always the smartest person in the room, you don’t always know what’s best for everyone, and other people are allowed to have perspectives that don’t match yours. Confidence says “I know what I’m capable of.” A god complex says “I’m above you.” There’s a difference.
