It was almost over, then she could go home... Home. Home. It echoed in their head. It heard exited barking and perked their ears up. Dawn was just breaking over the sky, and while Peacockpaw stretched they heard the howling, the barking, growing louder still. No longer did she dismiss it as a twoleg pet getting riled up- this was serious. Pavo dove over the border and scrambled down a hill with a shower of pebbles streaming down after her. They landed with a paw stuck between some rocks- and splashed right into the river, surfacing and wading as far away from all this as she could. Pip dug it out and peeked out from the covered ridge. Gray against the brown and tan peat of the ground. Green broken by their pelts as a couple streamed by in the distance. The smell of the hounds. . . . And then the smell of blood started rising into the air, filling Penny's lungs as they struggled to get a hold on what was happening. Caterwauls in the distance were a telltale sign. Wolves. In MossClan. More screaming of their fellow clancats, more and more filled the air as they heard barks and... the smell of blood from the camp closeby. And then... cats. streaming out of the camp. Some coming this way, going to hide from the pack. Penny sat there in fear. Cilantropaw? Cee... Where were you? Why weren't you running too? . . . Cilantropaw...? . . . Pip dropped down in the water and a vision flashed before her, of making a flower chain with their friend, weaving the intricate patters so carefully and wrapping it around Cilantro's neck, giggling and laughing at how big it looked on them. They were kits. Now, Cilantro... had to defend their clan, of course. Maybe they'd be okay! But Pea waited there, sitting in the chilling water and watching cats come and go, drifting out of the battle. And there was no Cilantropaw. There never would be. [ ᴇɴᴅ ᴏғ ʀᴏʟᴇᴘʟᴀʏ. ]
