Being the first independent station in the Wuhu archipelago. However, unlike other independent stations at the time, it operated under a non-commercial educational license. In 1960, it became an affiliate of the nationwide educational network, NET. It, alongside other NET affiliates switched to the newly-launched PBS in 1970, after NET ceased operations that year. WUIE-TV would introduce its circle 7 symbol in 1975, initially using ABC's circle 7 logo until 1985, replacing it to a more custom looking version of it. In 1993, WUIE Educational Telecommunications would merge with the Wuhu University's recently spun-off radio station WTWD (90.1 FM) to form the Wuhu Island Public Education Foundation. Both stations began branding themselves as "Wuhu Archipelago Public Media" that same year. WUIE-TV and WTWD would change their call-letters to WAPM-TV and WAPM-FM respectively in 1999, to better reflect their monikers. That same year, both stations introduced a stylized flower emblem. It is still used despite some minor alterations. From 2006 to 2016, WAPM-TV added the PBS logo to its look. It was reintroduced in 2019, where it is still used to this day.
