Katherine's POV: I swallowed and made a disgusted face. "I think... I think it's earwax." Everyone burst out laughing. I stared at the little package in horror. "It actually tastes like earwax?" James asked, laughing. "How would you even know what that tastes like?" That made them laugh even harder. "I don't!" I said quickly. "I just know it tastes horrible!" Rose picked up another bean. "That's the problem with Every Flavour Beans. You never know what you're going to get." I put the package down carefully. "I think I'll stick with chocolate." Lily nodded sympathetically. "Probably a good idea." I looked at the Chocolate Frog card in my bag and smiled. At least that was something magical I definitely liked. After a while, our conversation changed, and I found myself wondering about something I had been thinking about since Hagrid first explained magic to me. "Can I ask you something?" I said quietly. "Of course," Lily replied. "You said your families are magical too, right?" They all nodded. "My family is completely ordinary," I continued. "So I don't really understand how everyone's families work here." Rose smiled. "It can be different for everyone." I looked at them. "What about your parents?" James smiled. "My dad is Harry Potter and my mum is Ginny Weasley." I looked at the card in my bag. "So that's really your dad?" "Yep," Lily said. "The same one who helped you at the platform." I smiled a little. "He's very nice." "He is," she said. "Our family is half-blood," Albus explained. I looked at him curiously. "What does half-blood mean?" "It means someone has both magical and non-magical family somewhere in their family history," James explained. "Dad is a half-blood, and Mum comes from a magical family." I nodded slowly. "So you're half-bloods too?" "Yes," Lily said. "All three of us are." I looked at Rose. "What about your family?" Rose smiled. "I'm a half-blood too. My dad, Ron Weasley, comes from a magical family, but my mum, Hermione Granger, is Muggle-born." I repeated the unfamiliar word quietly. "Muggle-born?" Rose noticed my confused expression. "You don't know what that means, do you?" I shook my head. "No." "A Muggle-born witch or wizard is someone who is born to parents who aren't magical," Rose explained.
