Chapter 10: I don't know who was most surprised. Me and Fay were clinging to each other and Rose literally screamed. The ghosts seemed to be arguing about something. "Forgive and forget," said a fat one. "We should give Peeves another chance." "Hasn't Peeves had all the possible chances?" queried one in a ruff. "And he's caused so much trouble this time. You know, we had this argument a few decades ago in this same spot. You won. Peeves has done more trickery since then and nobody can say it's got better." Just then, I think, the ghosts noticed us. The fat one chuckled. "First years! Of course! It's that time again! Hope to see you in Hufflepuff! It was my house, you know." We all glanced at each other. What were the houses? At least that's what I was thinking. Professor McGonnagal swept back into the room. "We are almost ready to begin the feast." she explained. "But first you must be sorted into your houses. This is a very important ceremony because whilst you are at Hogwarts your house will be like your family. You will go to lessons with them, sleep with them and eat with them. I suggest you all neaten yourselves up." With that, she left. I wondered what we would have to do. The blonde girl we had shared the boat with came up to me. "I'm a bit nervous. Are you? Mum wouldn't tell me what we had to do. She said she wanted it to be a surprise." The girl spoke about all this as if it was mildly interesting - nothing to worry about, really. She also held the aura of distinct dottiness even though she really looked quite sane. It was just something about her. "Of course what Mum says is usually nonsense. Always talking about nargles and crumple-horned snorcacks." I didn't really know what to say. Eventually, I said "I'm nervous as well. What do you think they'll make us do?" The girl didn't get a chance to reply as we were interrupted by Professor McGonnagal. "We are ready for you," she said and we were led through the doors...
