Welcome to the LSAM Aircraft of the Month 2026! This month’s focus is on our Lockheed P-38G Lightning S/N 43-2264, known as Miss Virginia. This aircraft is a combat veteran, and took part in Operation Vengeance in April 1943 as one of the 18 P-38s sent to intercept and shoot down a formation of Japanese aircraft, including a G4M ‘Betty’ that was carrying Admiral Yamamoto. Later in 1943, it had a crash landing, and disappeared for decades. It resurfaced in the early 2000s, was purchased by another owner for restoration, before the LSAM acquired it in 2010. It spent 14 years under restoration to fly, and it was completed in September of 2024.
