I just moved from my home country, the United States, to South Korea. HxZ High is located in Seoul, and—after a long (really long) journey—I’ve arrived absolutely exhausted; I’m from San Francisco, and there’s a 16-hour time difference between the two cities. The hallway at HxZ High is filled with a deafening noise. I try to adjust my uniform—which feels a bit strange—while looking for my classroom. I finally find the door. As I walk in, the teacher asks me to introduce myself to the class. "안녕하세요, 제 이름은 [error]입니다..." I say, my voice a bit raspy from jet lag, "그리고 저는 미국에서 이곳으로 막 이사 왔습니다. 여러분을 만나 뵙게 되어 반갑습니다." The teacher gives me an empty seat at the back. I sit in the chair, and honestly, the morning goes by in a complete blur. Between the teacher talking in the background and my brain struggling to stay awake, I just stare out the window and count the minutes. I don't learn a thing from the lesson; I just need to survive the first day. "RIIIING!" The lunch bell is a lifesaver. I follow the stream of students to the main cafeteria. The smell of food wakes me up a little, so I grab a tray and sit at an empty table, away from the crowd. Suddenly, the chair across from me moves. A girl with black hair, almond brown eyes and a huge smile sets down her tray and sits down without asking. "Hi! You’re the new girl from San Francisco, right?" she says. "I’m [error]" Before I can process her question, three more girls come over and sit with us, gathering around the table.
