This is a new book I am writing so I hope you like it! Dragon of the north I hear a soft rustling noise behind me and when I turn I can see the glowing eyes of a forest creature. Then I hear the clanking of metal and it steps forward into the light of my lantern. A creature wearing a copper plate of armor and wielding a partially rusted sword. I cannot fully make out what it is but it is some type of lesser monster. It had a scrunched up face and greenish yellow eyes that glowed faintly in the dark. As it approached me its sword rattled in its scabbard, making a clanking sound with every step it took. I got off of my horse making sure to move with purpose. I reached for my sword but before I could reach it the creature moved closer and made an odd gurgling sound. Before the creature could react I turned around quick as lightning and clobbered it over the head with my lantern. The fire light flickers for a moment then burns steady as if nothing had happened, the same could not be said for the creature. I moved it over off the dirt road and laid it under an old oak with the leaves gently swaying in the breeze. I know that it would regain consciousness within a few hours. I continue on my way just as before with frost whipping in the wind.
As dawn creeps upon the land I reach a ruined wall, one of the many remaining from the old war. It was a mighty wall now in ruin and decay, however there is a faint glow upon it, cast from the fire braziers. Wooden bridges connect sections that have crumbled down. A field of poppies lay before the mighty wall, a sign of remembrance for the battle fought here. I get down from my horse and approach the wall to pay remembrance for I fought at this battle. I look around and see an old farm house with a field of wheat ready for harvesting. The wall brings many memories back. Memories of fighting, memories of peace, memories of old friends lost. I tie my horse to a small tree near the great pine. It has grown in the center of the field long ago when there was peace not battle. The great pine has a few scars from the old war. Most of the wounds have healed but the memories remain. I stand up and walk back to my horse. I quickly untie my horse and walk it to the farm house where I feed my horse. When I walk into the house I see cobwebs and dust covering everything. It is quite apparent to me that no one has lived in this house in a very long time. I search around the house for any weapons or armor, however I find only dust. I leave the house and go over to my horse and we continue on our journey to the northern border. I come upon many ruins and abandoned structures, making sure to avoid the kingdoms and cities that dot the land. Every now and then I come across a remnant of the old war, stopping to pay respect when I can. It was just as the moon was setting when I came across a large abandoned structure, a remnant from the old war. It was a barracks once full of soldiers and filled with noise, now empty and lifeless. The stone walls were cold and menacing. I got off of my horse and entered the barracks. Weapons lined the endless corridors, the dim light cast by my lantern illuminated the bleak walls and ghostly rooms. The rooms were left the same as they were when the soldiers had gotten up from their beds. The barracks were preserved exactly the same as the day everyone left to fight. Weapons and armor were strewn around the room. I can smell a musty damp smell emanating from somewhere in the building. As I walk I pick up some of the weapons, skillfully crafted the blades were pristine even after all of this time. I pick up a sword of elven design, long, slightly curved, and powerful. As I hold it in my hands I can feel the power within the blade. I put it into a sheath and carry it with me. The iron armor has all collected rust but the dwarven made pieces are in pristine condition as are the elven blades. I find a black steel dwarven chestplate and helm when I put it on it glows a faint red. As I begin to leave the barracks I can hear a faint humming noise coming from below me. The farther away from it I go the louder it is. I can hear it even after I leave the old building. It is so loud that I cannot escape it so I go back into the barracks but this time I can see a dark corridor leading down, down into the darkness. As if calling me but it has changed into a faint voice but I can hear it more clearly the farther down I go. I don't even need to use my lantern because my armor is glowing so bright I can see as if it was day. And then I see it, a great chamber nearly twenty feet tall the walls tower over me. The air is dry against my skin. My chestplate casts a ghostly glow upon the walls.
