After thinking about it, the Mongols were more liberal than many Americans. The bloody MONGOL EMPIRE was better than most modern nation-states- 0-0 Not only do I admire them for their tactics/doctrine, but also for their governance and beliefs. A quick introduction for those who don't care (lmao), the Mongol Empire was the second largest Empire in human history. Only the British Empire was bigger. Stretching from Europe to Korea during the medieval period, they were an unstoppable horde of conquest. They are best known for their brutality. If you didn't immediately give up at first sight of a Mongol Army, they would slaughter your entire town with extreme brutality I cannot begin to describe. Despite their extreme brutality however, they were probably one of the best Empires to be conquered by (If you bowed to their rule). They had extreme religious tolerance, I believe they even adopted elements from religions they conquered. You wouldn't find that across modern society, for example, the American far-right hates Muslims and has repeatedly tried to get rid of them/their beliefs. In some towns, when the Mongols conquered it, they would pillage the wealthy and give it back to the poor. Keep in mind, at this time, wealth was built off the backs of others, so this was insane. They didn't just take it for themselves, they gave back to the people they conquered. Mongol trade-routes also helped bring prosperity to conquered towns, I mean they ushered in a golden age of trade across Eurasia. Most importantly, the Mongols protected regional autonomy. Unlike modern civilizations, which actively want to create a centralized state, the Mongols embrace local differences. The biggest difference was the Mongols made sure local leaders were loyal to the Khan. No other Empire has really done anything similar. It doesn't matter your beliefs, religious or political, so long as you bow to the Khan. The Mongols built up the middle class (Artisans), which boomed under their reign. The Mongols also fully embraced meritocracy, being as important as loyalty to the Khan. This was especially clear in the Mongol military, which is why is was so effective against European armies, where your birth-right still determined your job. A famous example of this was Genghis Khan's successor. The Khan had many sons, however, he gave it not to the eldest, or the most competent general, but the one who was universally popular. Genghis Khan himself wasn't as good of a general as say Napoleon, but he was universally liked and made friends easily. This was the foundations of the Empire. The Mongol Empire is overshadowed by the British Empire and Roman Empire, though it was arguably way better than them. Especially Rome. It stretched way further than any other Empire. They may have been absolute savages, but they also were far more 'enlightened' than Europe at the time. Even today, most people favour "democratic" oppression over liberalism, which is getting so bad, that the Mongols look favourable-
