alright i just watched some shrek last night (hence the doodle in his full bitmap glory) and i was thinking about how obvious princess fiona's mbti was, like it was so stereotypically obvious i couldnt help but wonder, are there other characters like this? (possible spoilers ahead for the following amazing movies: shrek (2001), into the spiderverse/across the spiderverse, sonic 3, and puss in boots: the last wish) so we know that princess fiona is an esfj; her deep desire to do what's socially acceptable and follow the unspoken rules, taking charge to do so makes her perfectly fit this type. quotes like (shrek 2001): "what kind of knight are you?" "this isn't right! you're meant to blah blah blah" (questioning the unorthodox, you get the idea) shrek, like fiona, is a borderline textbook example of a stereotypical istp; almost the opposite of her type: most of their interactions are an example of fiona's strong fe and si combo (extroverted feeling: what's socially accepted + introverted sensing: comparing the past and present to make decisions, attention to small details) and shrek's ti and extroverted sensing (introverted thinking: an internal understanding to create an analysis that makes sense for him, reasoning and filtering through illogical fallacies + engagement with the present world, hence why he's so deeply protective of his swamp) clashing, but he gets used to it which possibly starts adapting into his ni (his tertiary function though it does still appear throughout his character, playing as a healthy filter for his logical ti) standards as their relationship grows (⬆️⬆️⬆️ i gotta make a tldr version) some stereotypical examples that show shrek's functions quite obviously: one of my favorite quotes from the movie (also, shrek 2001): "ogres are like an onion", (aux. sensing function) "...ogres have layers" (making up metaphors that aren't necessarily used by ppl but they make logical sense to him (ti) and they're in an extroverted sensing way, using physical irl things) "...i'm not the one with the problem" "...it's the world that seems to have a problem with me" (shrek 2001) likely ti-ni combo (interpersonal logic + summing up what he has collected from his interpersonal data) ---------- ok what about puss in boots: i love this guy, he has a nice character build and i loved his character development! (predominantly visible in the last wish) he's like textbook estp, the whole fearless vibrato he carries and carefree spirit is very obviously estp, (though i've heard some ppl think esfp, i can see why since he's a big entertainer but at his core i think thats a more fe people-pleasing thing which is hinted a lot in the movie, he seems to have a big issue with that. also he pulls out his fe a lot when he tries to manipulate) he's not very intuitive at all lol, and i notice that with many fictional characters (perhaps bc they're meant to have not too much thought? especially if it's made for younger audiences idk) and sorry no quotes for now i can't think of any ----------- kitty softpaws!! yeeeeaahhh definitely like a cat version of gwen stacy for sure. they're so similar and it's no coincidence they're both istps (a lot of xSTP's in the fictional character space i feel like lol) trust issues galore using ni; a clean big-picture internal processing summary of data used usually to plan for future awareness if that makes sense. ex. (quoted from puss in boots the last wish): "yk where trust gets you?" (then she lists all these sensing things); "a sock, a rock, and blah blah blah" "whenever i let my guard down i've (lists more things)" "...i am a solo act" (very istp to disassociate when something goes wrong) also, a very clear si-ne pattern once again: i trusted in the past, bad happens, therefore i will never trust again (concrete summarizing patterns), she kinda has an all or nothing mindset essentially ----------- shadow the hedgehog!!! saved the best for last :D i really wanted to like sonic 3 but it's just so cringe. i couldn't help but laugh at some of his lines, they were rlly cheesy, like when shadow said "revenge guac"?? bro :'( still barely recovering from that genuinely at least his character development was sick i thoroughly enjoyed the sonic and shadow (obviously paraphrasing) "we're not so different" arcs, or like "im you if you held onto trauma", SO well done also, his mbti was a bit confusing (ik this was supposed to be about obvious mbti types it still is trust) only because he's an obvious intj until they decided to heavily rely on trauma for his character. which begs the question: is he just an intj with trauma, or is his whole character just based off his traumatic experiences? if the latter is the case then he's an si dom (remember they focus heavily on the past to guide them, it's literally a part of their personality) pretty enlightening i'd say :)
