One player uses X (usually goes first) and the other uses O. Turns: Players take turns placing their symbol in an empty square. Winning: The first player to get three of their symbols in a straight line—horizontally, vertically, or diagonally—wins the game. Tie: If all nine squares fill up and no player has three in a row, the game ends in a tie (or a draw).
