Space/Click Owen was built in 1943 in Leeds as a Hunslet Austerity 0-6-0ST for the war department. For that reason he didn’t have a very good first few years. He was tasked with pulling military equipment from station to station. Once the war was over, he finally had time to rest. He realized how beautiful the world was, he started to cheer up and became an optimist. He was sent to the LNER, (which changed his class name to J94) to shunt at multiple dock sides. In 1948, the big 4 railways merged into British railways. He was sent to work at a large station as a shunter. Everyone loved Owen at that station, even the trucks, who were very well behaved. In late 1966, Owen was about to be sent to the scrapyard. Luckily, everyone at his station protested. So Owen was bought by an industrial company, he worked pulling coal to and fro the mines. He missed his old station though, this was nothing like the yard. Unfortunately, in 1971, there was no need for him anymore, he was left in a shed to rust. And no one saw him for 10 years before being found and restored by the HWR in 1981. the engines there soon came to respect him, and Owen has stayed there since. And likely will for a long time.
