Asher leaned against the kitchen counter, his large frame making the room look tiny as he dramatically gestured with a wooden spoon. He was in the middle of a breathless, animated retelling of his latest gym match, his deep voice bouncing off the walls. Avery sat on the edge of the counter right next to him, her legs swinging back and forth in mid-air. She listened intently, her eyes wide with amusement, occasionally popping a piece of popcorn into her mouth. "—so then I dodged left, right, and boom! Total knockout!" Asher finished, grinning down at her, his broad shoulders finally relaxing. "Anyway, I've been talking for twenty minutes straight. Your turn. Tell me more about that vintage circus poster you found online." Avery’s face instantly lit up. She stood up on top of the counter, gaining just enough height to look him right in the eye. "Okay, so it’s from an 1890s traveling troupe, and the typography is completely hand-drawn!" She began, her hands tracing shapes in the air as she excitedly explained the history of acrobatic troupes. Asher didn't interrupt once. He just smiled, gently placing his large, wrapped hands around her waist to steady her balance on the narrow counter, completely content to just listen.
