So peak I posted it twice (the other time is on the actual ref) Some explanations for things. Mayhaps even some lore drop if you just don’t know who this is. Scars: The one that’s on her mouth comes from Pigeonstar that one time vey killed her in the arena wow. The one on her back and the two surrounding it comes from the lightning that ultimately sent her straight to hell Other scars come from assorted fights and battles, though there are only three because most of the time she simply comes out unscathed. Accessories: She got the fish bones when she was a baby and decided to stab the, into her ears (henceforth piercing them) she had to go to the medic’s den for that one. Loser behavior She wraps seaweed around her paws and usually upper limbs because they lessen the impacts in many things. Mainly fighting, but she’s also super old. The fish scales she got are MARLIN fish scales because she’s egotistical. The obsidian comes from the time she saw a seagull crushed by a large rock. She hates seagulls. She carved the obsidian into horn shapes when she was still -blight because she believed that she would appear more menacing. The thorn wraps are something she straight up stole from hiraethhalo. Her ghost markings are made up of teeth and lightning bolts because the universe is quite the ironic thing. Every line here is something that I curated myself and I lowk looked at it and was like “yeah I should reveal my art process because I feel like it”
Art process: Step 1: I usually start with the general idea, nothing is overly defined and this is where anatomy gets worked on the most. I call this the blocking stage because usually it starts with shapes that I see in references that are pretty cool Step 2: adding fur and defined shapes. This is still in the sketching phase but one rule that I go by is simply not drawing other details here YET (things like scars, accessories, attributes, and markings are for later) this is just getting the body fully down. The rule of thumb here is to put fur wherever there’s a bend or a curve. The more you add the better it’ll look. Step 3: Before I add in any other detail I line the sketch which isn’t really that hard it’s just tracing the sketch. Then I add in the sketches for other details. I usually start with the fur markings, then I color the fur and move on to the other things like accessories, clouds, etc. Step 4: slowly adding color and linework for the things sketched out last step. I generally do the lines a layer on top of the regular Lineart and then I do the colors a layer below. Step 5: I add in the background, either drawn out beforehand or drawn in Step 6: I drew in the details for the reference Step 7: this only exists because o couldn’t decide what ghost markings I should do so they took me longer. Generally the process looks like this on most drawings: Sketch, defined sketch, Lineart, color sketch, flat colors, scar sketch, scar lines plus colors, accessory sketch, accessory lines plus colors, ghost markings, attribute sketch, attribute line plus colors, rendering (if needed).
