Fox looks out the window and into a huge forest. She’s been trying to see outside all day and finally found a way she can without her mother telling her no. “Wow! There’s a whole forest out there!” she says to her brothers who were wrestling again, then something catches her eye. A big gray cat with a white stripe on its back looks up at the window. ‘Cats live out in the forest?’ Fox gasps, she tries jumping up to the window but her mother appears and grabs her by the scruff, pulling away “No going near the window Fox! How many times do I have to tell you that?” she says then places her down. Her mother separates the Fox’s brothers “And you guys stop fighting!” “Yes mother” Fox and her littermates say at the same time. Fox rolls her eyes and looks back up at the window just in time to see one of her twolegs open it. 'Hmmm, maybe I can take a little peek outside…..' Later that night the window is still open and everyone’s asleep. Except for Fox. She jumps up onto the window and pauses for a moment. 'Should I really go out there? 'Fox sits there thinking, glancing back she sees her mother stirring. Fox quickly jumps out the window. She runs to the fence and hears her mother yowl “Fox!” Not wanting to be brought back before she can explore, Fox takes off into the forest. Fox wanders around a bit. 'I wonder if I’ll run into that cat I saw.' She settles down listening closely. “C’mon Stonetail. Bluekit’s being made an apprentice soon! I don't want to miss the ceremony!” Fox crouches to the sound of the voice and crawls towards it. A brown tom around Fox’s age bounces excitedly in front of the same gray tom she saw earlier that day. 'It’s him!' The gray tom rolls his eyes, and grumbles “Then we better get moving Mudpaw” The brown tom, Mudpaw, nods then begins but stops, spotting Fox. “What are you doing here!” Mudpaw gasps, surprised “Your a kittypet!” Fox eyes widen oh no! “I- um I-” Fox starts but the gray tom, Stonetail, steps forward and hisses “Go back to your twoleg den. ” Fox doesn’t flinch, instead she stands tall and says “I don't want to! It’s amazing out here!” “Oo oo!” Mudpaw exclaims “We could take her to Lightstar! Maybe she could become our prisoner!” Fox stares wide-eyed. “Good idea.” Stonetail grumbles “Follow us.” 'This was a bad idea! I really don't want to be a prisoner.' Fox follows slowly, glancing around the forest. Mudpaw falls in step beside Fox and asks “So what’s your name?” “Fox.” she replies slowly, “It fits you a lot. As you’ve heard Stonetail say before, I’m Mudpaw.” Fox smiles slightly and Stonetail says “We are here.” Looking up Fox sees a wall of thorny bushes and a small opening. She follows Stonetail and Mudpaw inside. Glancing around she notices curious faces and a few terrified ones. “Is that a fox cub?” “Why did Stonetail bring it to camp?” “I don’t smell fox, only kitypet.” voices whisper, one calls out ruling the others out “What have you brought to camp Stonetail? A fox?” All cats look up to a yellow tabby she-cat, sitting on a stump. “No Lightstar, a Kittypets kit” Stonetail replies.
