Lily On a large hill behind the castle, you could look down and see all the rolling fields and pastures. It was especially beautiful now, because of the sun dipping below the horizon. Sylas took my hand, leading me up the hill. When we got to the top, he let go of my hand and his eyes met mine. I smiled. He didn't. His gaze dropped. "Sy? What's wrong?" I questioned him, noticing his hands had begun to shake. "Lily, there's something I've been putting off telling you." "Okay?" I prompted. "I'm leaving tomorrow. I enlisted in the King's army and I'm going to Kentia tomorrow to join the fight." I couldn't speak. I just stared at him; his eyes trained on the ground. "What?" The word slipped through my lips, sounding so small. So weak. "You're...leaving?" He took my hand in his, and nodded. "Yes Lily. I have to help. This war...it's not right. And I can help fight! The magic I have could save millions of lives. I can't sit back and do nothing." "But Sylas, if you go you could..." I didn't dare speak the thought out loud. He wouldn't die. Right? "Your magic is too valuable to our Kingdom. Ask the King. My dad would surely say that--" "I already asked him Lil. He agreed my skills would be far more useful on the battlefield." He tucked a strand of hair behind my ear, his eyes thoughtful. "But I will come back. I can promise you that. We will be together again." "Then I will go fight too! My magic can also be used for the good. We can fight alongside each other and--" "No." He grabbed my shoulders tightly to stop me from talking. "You are the only heir to the throne. You can't go to war. No," His eyes closed, almost as if he was trying to hold back tears. "I have to do this alone." Uncontrollably, tears stung my eyes. "Sylas, please. Don't do this to me." "Let's not talk about this now," His grip on my shoulders relaxed. He cupped my cheek in his hand. "Let's focus on what we have right now." I sighed at the warmth of his touch. "But Sy--" Without warning, his lips were on mine. I was too stunned to think at that moment, but I leaned into the kiss. His arms wrapped around my waist, pulling me closer. My hands were tangled in his jet-black hair. For a minute, I forgot all about war and fighting and death. I was only in this moment. When we pulled apart, neither of us said anything. We didn't need to. "Oh Sylas," Tears leaked from my eyes onto my cheeks. I wrapped my arms around him in a hug. "Shhh," He chided, rubbing his hand up and down my back. "There's no need to worry. Everything will be alright." "You promise?" I asked, pulling away to look up into his eyes. Those brilliant, emerald, green eyes. He smiled, leaned in and planted a soft, small kiss on my lips. "I promise."
This is the beginning of a story I thought of last night. This is not the one I will be deciding with the poll by the way! I hope you guys enjoyed this!! And trust me, chapter one will be something no one expected! AllyAuthor <3 "I heard that there's a carnival The music there is loud, the lights are wonderful No one makes it out, they welcome you with grins But once you're in, you will never be the same again." Carnival by John Michael Howell The song has nothing to do with the story...or does it?
