When they woke up, they saw that their dad had left them in the forest. *Can you believe that?! You could really? Their dad is super nice!* Gretel cried. *Okay, I know I just said something like ten lines ago, but I just gotta say something: why is she crying? I would be crying in joy.* “Don’t cry, Gretel. Everything will be all right,” said Hansel. “All we have to do is wait for sundown.” So they fell asleep again. When they woke up, the moon was out, and the light of the moon was shining over the path. They followed the rocks that Hansel had put out on the path. The rocks led Hansel and Gretel back home. *YAY! Back home to the dad and the stepmom who wants to kill them!* Hansel wrapped his hand around the knocker on the door. “KNOCK! KNOCK!” “WHAT IS THAT?!” yelled their stepmom. Their dad got up to let the person who had knocked in. He thought it was probably his buddy, who was also a lumberjack. They were going to go to the tavern in Greenville that night. But when he opened the door, he saw that it was Hansel and Gretel. “What? What are you doing here?” “You left us, so we went back home.” “IDIOT KIDS! We were going to come back for you after I had a drink at the bar!” said the dad. Hansel and Gretel knew that this was not true, but they went along with it. “Now get in your tent!” yelled the dad. Then they hurried off to their tent outside the house of their stepmom and their dad. The dad and stepmom's window was open, so Hansel and Gretel could hear what they were saying. “Who was it?” said their stepmom. “It was Hansel and Gretel. They came back. I say we should do the same thing as last time, but this time we give them a room in our house, and I will lock the door to go outside so they can't make a path with rocks.” So after the talk, the dad got the kids and led them into their new room. Hansel crept downstairs from his new room and tried to open the door, but it was locked. “What are you doing, Hansel?” said the wicked dad. “Oh, me? I just heard my dog trying to get in,” said Hansel. “Dumb boy. You don't have a dog,” said the dad. *Okay, so WHY DOES THE DAD JUST GO ALONG WITH IT?!*
