CHAPTER 8 ONE HOUR LATER... Jack found himself lying on the floor. But what floor? Wait, was he dead? Or was this his grave? Had he been buried alive? No, this was the basement of their new home, he realized. But how did he get here? And where was... dad? He was lying on the floor as well. He was alive, but badly hurt. He had a broken leg and a concussion. Jack needed to find help, and fast. He found Noah. He was bleeding a bit on his knee, but otherwise, he was fine. "What happened to dad?" he asked. Jack sighed before answering. "He's badly hurt. We need to find help quickly." "But how are we-" "The tornado's passed by now," Jack interrupted. "Hopefully we can find someone who can help." A few minutes later, Jack found himself pulling a wagon that had dad in it, and Noah by his side. They managed to find a doctor, who was also badly hurt, but luckily still alive. "Why, look at you," he said. He was right. Jack was bleeding a lot more than Noah, and had a scar. "Yes, but this isn't about me," Jack answered. "Can you help my dad?" The doctor looked at dad with wide eyes. "Yes, I can help," he answered finally, "but it's gonna take quite a bit of work." After a few long minutes, Jack looked at dad. "He looks better," Jack said. And then dad's eyes opened. "Thank you," he said in a low voice. "You're welcome," the doctor said with a smile. "You're very welcome."
CHAPTER 9 "Where are we going to live?" asked Jack. "Well, you can't really go anywhere," the doctor answered. "All systems of transportation other than walking are either destroyed or shut down." "Well, where can we go?" "I heard of some places that did survive the tornado, there's a church over that way." "Thanks doctor..." "Kevin." "Thanks, Doctor Kevin." "You're welcome," said the doctor again with a smile. They headed in the direction Kevin pointed to, and they soon made it there. The people were really nice, and let them stay. It was like a maze in there, anyone could get lost! Speaking of, he hadn't heard Noah's voice the entire trip there. Maybe he was more horrified than Jack thought, and he'd stopped talking because of his fear. But just when Jack had that thought, Dad asked, "Jack, will you check on your little brother?" "Okay," Jack said. But when he turned to look, he wasn't there. He had to run all the way back to the entrance, calling, "Noah!" the entire way there. But even when Jack got back to the entrance, Noah wasn't found. Did he get lost outside? And it was burning hot outside. He decided to open the door to have a peek, and he realized there were fires. And Noah was somewhere out there. Wait--FIRES!? He had lost his mom in a fire! He couldn't save mom, but he's not going to lose Noah! Without a second thought, he leaped out of the safety and into the danger.
