The Baleset Orr were a semi-sedentary tribe who inhabited the deep temperate interior of the continent. The group themselves were once part of a greater collective, the Balesetic Peoples, before the original portion was infected by a mold present in a water way they drunk from. This parasite went to their brains, where they infected them and kept in. Initially, this parasitism was a negative. The group was quarantined quickly as the rest of the peoples scurried off and hailed it as a misfortune. The group themselves struggled to survive in their new condition, but managed to bear a new generation. Over decades, this small population group found new infectees to put into their cult, and the parasite transitioned from an active harm to a more symbiotic entity. Curiously, it begun to mimic the neurotic habits of the human brain until it too could realize the state of its world. The virus had been uplifted to sentience. This group of infected would become the Baleset Orr, twisting to affinity towards worship and appreciation of the patron, the mold. In exchange, the mold would act as a neural network that let them communicate through pheromones. Those in symbiosis with the mold are clearly distinguishable by their ability to alter their own smell to a subtle degree, whether to deter predators or communicate habits. These Pheromones are complex to the point to where it is an active component to their language, being used to express various aspects their vocabulary lacks. These traits made them highly efficient in their grouping, put on pace to meet their group and become something more than they every were after generations of struggle. And then the Unsterbliche happened, and their world was no more. Fascinating. _____________________________________________ The Symbiote was quick to make note of its surroundings when the Tribe arrived to the Blackened (Empty). It held a variety of nutrients, fats to carbs to proteins, that would supply the tribe for months until the foodstuff grew and agriculture could be transitioned. It was also applied to their eyesight, making note of and censoring cognitohazards to prevent insanity. These systems let the tribe successfully settle the land without succumbing to immediate neurosis. The Tribes would live in typically small mudhuts near their irrigation fields on the shoreline, counting the relatively boring days through using sticks to draw on the ground, aswell as making note of the stars. The symbiote allowed the tribe to create a sort-of pantheon, spirits that were responsible for ending the old world and giving the tribe a chance to prove their worth. Constellations in the static sky were highly useful for later expeditions that haven't happened yet. Without a proper day and night system, timekeeping settled on the abundance of water. A large clepsydra was created. Large and tunneled to approximately about a 24-hour cycle, The water clocks were the first real shrine of the Baleset Orr, often visited by the tribe. The number of cycles were used as a way to figure when to butcher turkey, or harvest food, and accounting was put into clay tablets. They simply used the Exoarabic Numerical System, which was widely adopted in their world. A written language would not be made for now. The group were making themselves at home before they felt it necessary to venture out. To them, the horizon was simply an expanse of more ground and maybe a few things they couldn't quite make out. That's what it was...right?
