I pleaded, I begged. you were what I needed, and you left. "5,000 miles," you said. "5,000 miles." it felt so little, so small, my heart was brittle, and you let it fall. day by day, I'd watch and wait. hoping you'd come back. but time went on, and on, and on. a summer, a fall, a winter, a spring, repeat. hope dwindled to sparks, while my heart, was torn in parts. "come back to me," I whispered. "come home, my love." years went on, one by one. but every night I'd sit on the porch, watching the falling of the sun. my skin grew wrinkled, my hair turned gray, still counting the miles you went away. the porch grew cold, the stars aligned, and I was left waiting for the love that me left behind.
I finally found this song I heard somewhere abt a week ago and that's the inspo for this poem - well, half the poem. the other half comes from someone I know...who happens to be 5,000 miles away. '500 miles' by Peter, Paul, and Mary a (couple) draft(s) I didn't use: #1 5,000 miles. on paper it doesn't seem that far away, but the distance seems to stretch out, getting further every day. #2 Then through the dark, a shadow stirred, A sudden step, a whispered word. The 5,000 miles dissolved to space, As the setting sun lit up your face.
