I wasn't planning to make this project, but I accedentally stumbled upon something and felt like sharing ☆ 1. It all started with this drawing, (Keith from voltron) when I was drawing it I was having a lot of trouble. It was pretty irritating because it's a very simple pose, but the shapes just weren't shaping idk This is a problem in a lot of my art, I felt like I understand anatomy well enough, but the shapes I used to represent it was lacking, and everything ended up stiff. So I did some art studies! I always admire people who can draw very quickly without a sketch, and can show a lot of emotion in a drawing- and this is exactly what I lack. disney concept art captured what I wanted the most, so, 2. I did a refrence copy of big hero six. The only thing I remember about that movie was that it scared the socks off of me. I just love how the main character guy looks, so silly Also I've been doing some life drawings of people at school, it was tricky at first but I got the hang of it after a few days 3. This made me super happy, exactly the thing I was going for, all it took was one study! I beleive I had tried doing studies with the same goal in mind before, but my fundementals weren't good enough for me to actually learn anything 4. Trying to get the hang of it. What I'm doing here, is using a refrence photo of a person, and stylizying it by breaking down complicated areas into clear angles 5. Top right (ref copies of Disney hands) Blue (trying to stylize real hands) Bottom left (face copies) 6. Notice that I haven't drawn a single girl.... I'm just drawing what I want and having fun :) 7-8. Doodles 9. Faces of My near knockoff OC, West. I swear every time I change his design he looks more like near. More hands, these aren't just for getting better at hands, it also trains my ability to simplify something, even if it means diverging from the ref. 10. More facial expressions. Smiling and raised eyebrow expressions are sooooo hard. The bottom right is pretty cool, The top half is from a refrence. Originally the dude was sitting, but I wanted to make West stand so I did! When I'm better at art I hope I'll be able to make these drawings without heavy reliance on refrences. Doing these has helped me a lot already (Bottom left) I have a very clear image of how west is supposed to look inside my head, ans it does not match the right drawing lol. I imagine him to be kindofa bony stick, and be much more angular, aside from his cheek and ear which are pretty soft. Defo matches his personality more. I tried to do that here, it's not quite right but it's closer. The top leftmost on image 9 is closest to what I want for his face 11. Bonus, I haven't been digital art-ing much recently. And yes. Idc if Keith's hair is supposed to be black, IT'S BROWN ☆ I quite literally "found" an art style. This is genuinely the most fun I've had with my since who knows when, 2024?? Everything is so much more natural and alive. I'm so excited to see where this goes, and how I'll try to incorporate it into my other artsyles
