Mirror, mirror of my page, What should next come and engage? What story will my pen now write? What history will I bring to life? What new treasures shall you seek? What new story shall I speak? Through words, pen, type, and song, With stories, no one can go wrong, Mirror, Mirror of my page, What shall I reflect for gage? What event shall I highlight? What shadowed tale to bring to light? What words of mine should ink and flow? What rhymes am I to now bestow? What should you now reflect to all? What should be stood up from its fall? What echo should ring through our minds? What should be etched, not left behind? Oh, Mirror, Mirror of my page, Show me what we shouldn't cage.
Some people have asked if it was meant to be 'guage'. It wasn't. It's an uncommon meaning of 'gage', so that's why it seems wrong. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Note: This poem describes why I write, not just poetry, but many forms of writing, like narratives. Many things happen that seem so complicated or simple they are overlooked. That shouldn't be the case. Most, if not all, my writing carries 'essential truth', 'faulty eyewitnesses', and 'historical fiction'. Just because they aren't the exact events that happen, they hit close enough to make you wonder. I usually don't give context on whatever I write because I write art. I don't want what I wrote about to influence how you connect with me and my work. I want everyone to feel purely, truly, and without influence. Because I'm blunt and physically unable to end any note or email or anything with a proper conclusion and end to it, I shall end my accidental essay here. AJ
