The Star Beneath the Bramble Moonpaw crouched beneath a thorn bush, watching the stars flicker above the forest. She was supposed to be hunting, but something strange had caught her attention. A tiny silver light was glowing between the roots of an old oak. “That's not a firefly,” she whispered. Moonpaw crept closer. She pushed aside the leaves and discovered a smooth, pale stone shining with a soft blue light. Suddenly, a voice came from behind her. “Moonpaw?” She spun around. Her mentor, Brackenclaw, stood at the edge of the clearing. “What are you doing out here?” “I found something,” Moonpaw said, pointing at the stone. Brackenclaw stared at it. For a long moment, neither cat moved. Then the stone went dark. Moonpaw's fur prickled. Brackenclaw glanced toward the sky. “We should take this to the medicine cat.” But before they could leave, a single star fell from the heavens. It landed silently beside the stone.
