'I'm your friend', that's what they say, 'I'll back you up', they all 'portray', But I'm no Ariel, I know what they mean, I know they want me gone, wiped away, clean, Backstabbers, hope crushers, dream destroyers, Merely monsters, pain enjoyers, Not everybody fights with fists, Though it's what many insist, Some stab with words, Cruelty guarded by crosswords, Least they could have done was be blunt, Maybe have the decency to say it upfront, But, no! No matter where I go, All I think of is those blows, Those days where I learnt friends were foes, But they weren't the ones to tell me, They wouldn't let me be so free, Naivety blurs the lines between friendship and control, I was one to fall into its clutches as a whole, Who's to pull me out? Who's to give a shout? Call out to me, Say 'AJ, it's me!', Grab my hand, hold it tight, Show me battles aren't mine alone to fight, Stand by my side, With proud strides, Show me that's not how it'll end, Show me that they'll help me mend? Who will it be? The one who'll save me? Rescue me? Fight for me? Smile and laugh for me? Cry and hurt for me? Embrace and love for me? Seethe and hate for me? But now you're here, And all that is what you claim more than a peer, You swear that this is not the very end, So, I guess you're my friend? Are you sure that's what you want? Don't you think our friendship's soon to be gaunt, 'Cause if you tell me you won't leave, Then know that I will take time to believe, You have a choice, to leave or stay, But whatever it is, you'll have to say, But if you really are here to help me mend, Then I guess you're my friend? Does that make you my friend? Are you playing me, or are you my friend? Are you betting on my naivety to have a friend? Are you punishing yourself by being my 'friend'? Or are you willing to be my friend? To be my friend? Are you ready to take on many a whisper, That come from the crisper, Oh, crisper betrayers and be my friend? Oh, be my friend? To come and lend me, Your loyalty as my friend? 'Cause even if that's just what you can lend, I guess you're my friend? 'Cause if you want to give me hope, Help me learn how to cope, And if you want, if you chose, To be here through my highs and lows, I'll do the same for you, I'll be one of your crew, Oh, if you do, If what you say is true, Then, thank you for all you can and will lend, Because I guess you're my friend.
- This is for @homeschooler32's '100 followers poetry contest!' - congratulations, Lulu! - I'm not good at writing about friendship. I think I strayed a lot from that theme, but I think this still technically counts?
