Everyone celebrated the rescue, except the girl who had been found. I didn't have a great view, with so many excited people waving and cheering in the crowd. I shot a worried glance at the small, dirty girl in the middle. I could see her Adam's apple pounding away in her throat, her shoulders shaking, the way she bit her lip and looked at the ground. Our eyes met; hers wide open and scared like a cornered animal, mine confused and concerned. She held my gaze for a moment, then looked away before anyone noticed. Still, I wasn't TOO concerned about her. She had been lost in a forest for over a year, after all. I had no idea how wrong I was. ______ I never forgot that day, especially when she came to my door looking like a princess 2 months later. Sure, I was surprised, but more anxious about her sudden appearance. Sure, she was cleaned up and in new clothes, but I immediately recognized the same cornered, wild animal look in her eyes. At first, I was too stunned to speak. "Why?" I finally asked. "It's difficult." With tears in her eyes, she dragged me to an empty, darkened alley by the arm before I got a chance to even close the door. Behind the Dumpsters, even I was distracted from the smell because of her gripping story. As she told me, tears started dripping, then pouring down her cheeks. It turns out she wasn't the only one lost in the forest for 2 years, and the search for missing people shouldn't have stopped.
btw, the uppercase word is supposed to be italic And also, sorry it is so short! I just didn't have time to make it longer and wanted it to to end on a cliffhanger XD
