WINDOWS 2.03. RUNNING. IN SCRATCH. Yes, seriously. :D This project emulates a PC using Scratch blocks and boots an actual installation of Microsoft Windows 2.03 from a virtual hard drive. This is NOT a fake desktop. This is NOT an animation. This is NOT a bunch of Scratch sprites pretending to be Windows. It is the real Windows 2.03 software running inside the emulator! Windows 2.03 dates all the way back to 1987, and was one of the early Windows releases to support overlapping windows. >>> RUN IT HERE <<< https://experiments.turbowarp.org/pointerlock/1382635824 IMPORTANT: You need the TurboWarp Pointer Lock experiment for the mouse to work properly. The project is designed for: 640 x 480 stage 60 FPS Turbo Mode High Quality Pen Pointer Lock The project checks the environment when it starts and will warn you if something important is wrong. >>> HOW TO BOOT WINDOWS <<< 1. Open the TurboWarp link above. 2. Press the green flag. 3. Click inside the stage when you want to capture the mouse. 4. Wait for DOS to boot. The hard drive may ask you to enter the date and time. You can just press Enter to accept the defaults. At the DOS prompt, type: CD \WINDOWS Press Enter. Then type: WIN Press Enter again. AND THERE IT GOES!! >>> WELCOME TO WINDOWS 2.03 <<< You can move the REAL Windows mouse cursor, open menus, move windows around, launch programs, type with the keyboard, and explore MS-DOS Executive. Unlike Windows 1.x, Windows 2.x introduced overlapping application windows, so things can actually sit on top of each other now. Fancy technology for 1987! :D Press Esc to release your mouse from pointer lock. Click the stage again to capture it. >>> ABOUT THE EMULATOR <<< The emulator includes: - PC CPU emulation - RAM - Virtual hard disk - BIOS-style hardware behavior - Graphics emulation - Keyboard input - IBM PS/2-style mouse handling - Interrupt handling - Windows graphics support - Real disk reads and writes The Windows installation is stored inside the Scratch project itself. Getting ancient Windows graphics, interrupts, and especially the mouse working correctly in Scratch was WAY harder than it had any right to be. But it boots. It has a mouse. And Windows 2.03 is alive inside Scratch. Have fun breaking... I mean exploring it! :D #Windows #Windows203 #Emulator
