In MeadowClan, a young queen was teaching her kits manners. “Whath’s dat?” squeaked Crowkit, a young dark-furred tabby she-kit. “I don’f tink dat’s in owr vo- wut wuz itt? Vo-kap-yoo-Larry?” Basilkit added. Mintleaf, the queen, sighed. “Vocabulary, Basilkit. And manners are things like saying ‘please’, ‘thank you’, and ‘you’re welcome’.” “Huh. I’ve herd dat bee-ford!” Ravenkit exclaimed, shaking his long dark fur. Crowkit prodded him in the ribs harshly with her forepaw. “Oh, Waven, nyo-kit wonts ur op-een-eon!” she hissed. “OW!” he yelped, leaping away from his sister. “Cwowkit, dat hurt!” Ravenkit wailed. “Crowkit, stop being mean to Ravenkit! And it’s pronounced opinion, anyways. I’m sick and tired of you being rude to him! He’s your brother, for the Stars’ sake!” Mintleaf growled to her kit. “Sowwy nyot sowwy Mammy!” Crowkit replied mock-innocently. She side-glanced Ravenkit with a Don’t you think I’m done here look, before trotting away to the Nursery. “Another form of manners, that you could actually use properly, CROWKIT, is saying ‘Sorry’ when you hurt some-cat and mean it!” Mintleaf snapped to her daughter’s disappearing tail. Sighing, she turned around to see Basilkit and Flightkit sitting, wrapped comfortingly around Ravenkit. “Ur ok, Waven. Ur alwight.” Basilkit whispered softly to him, resting her tail across his trembling paws. Flightkit nodded his subtle agreement. Mintleaf picked up Flightkit, placing him on her back, before doing the same with Basilkit, and carrying Ravenkit by his scruff. “Monarchkit, you come along, too, please.” Monarchkit curled around her mother’s paws, padding alongside Mintleaf as they headed to the Nursery. “Time to sleep, now, kits. I’ll go talk to Crowkit and then send her to bed, too. Try to get some rest.” Mintleaf whispered to Basilkit, Ravenkit, Monarchkit, and Flightkit. “Oh-key donkey Mam!” Basilkit and Monarchkit chorus. Flightkit nods, smiling. Ravenkit just sits silently, staring at his paws, and sighs.
