Press space to spawn a shape. When you get a shape you have not found before you will unlock it's bio, and you can use arrow keys to cycle through them. If you haven't unlocked the bio, it will ust be a black box. The variable in the top left tells you how many shapes are on screen, with 300 being the max. Press Q to clear all shapes on screen. Watch out for yellow hexagons!
