You have been warned dont report me this is mostly a filler chapter guys Chapter 3: Suspects “Mr. Takakura.” L’s monotone voice on the phone said, with no hints of emotion behind it. Though Takakura thought that might have just been the filter. “Good morning, Ryuzaki.” Takakura said, pinning the phone to his ear with his shoulder. He was currently at the Tokyo PD office, typing away on his computer, as he’d been filling out the autopsy report on Makoto when the call came in. “Has the department found anything? Any possible leads or suspects?” “We have found three so far… one past boyfriend of the victim, her ex-husband, and a coworker. Each has a distinct possibility of being the k1ller. By the time the b0dy was discovered, approximately three hours had passed.” Takakura shifted slightly, taking the phone in his hand so he could look freely at the autopsy report. “The cause of d3ath was a gvnsh0t wound to the chest, seemingly performed after the k1ller pulled the nails off with those pliers.” Takakura shuddered, reflexively clenching his free hand into a fist at the thought. “Then I will interview those people today, if possible.” L said simply, then hung up the phone. He had already been granted a search warrant, and each suspect had been sent a letter informing them to come to the station at a specific time after the house search. The first suspect: an old ex-boyfriend of the victim, who had been bowling with his friends at the time. The search of his house pulled up nothing, no journal excerpts about anything suspicious, no matching plier sets. In the interview, he had told the interrogator that he had moved on long ago, since Makoto had a repeated history of cheating on her partners. Observing through the mirror, L wrote this down, thinking it to be important to the case. He determined that no suspect would see him. Again, part of his safety measures. The second suspect: a coworker of Makoto’s who had seemed unusually cheerful at work. His name was Shinji Kazama. The search of his house also pulled nothing, an orderly, tidy house that provided no information about the crime. During the interview, Shinji explained that his mood had been elevated the other day since he had been very productive and finished many projects he had left half done. The third suspect: the victim’s ex-husband. He had no alibi. His house matched that of the crime scene, covered in a thin layer of dust– clearly not very well maintained. “Where were you and what were you doing (number) days ago, at 9:17 PM?” The interviewer asked, glancing at the suspect. He shifted slightly in his seat, adjusting the hem of his shirt. “Man, I don’t really know… I think I was at home. Or something. I don’t know.” He muttered, casting a nervous glance at the mirror behind the interviewer. ‘This must be the mvrderer,’ L thought, narrowing his eyes slightly. The crime scene hadn’t returned anything that he could use, no fingerprints or bl00d. A slight tinge of frustration radiated through his body. The weapons had been left at the scene, yet there was no way of identifying the mvrderer. It was almost as if… the mvrderer was taunting him. Like they knew. Like they knew the police had called the greatest detective of all time for their crimes. L was slightly annoyed with himself for not paying attention, as the interview was over. The other two interviewees were waiting in the lobby, and L approached them.
“Hello,” one said. L recalled him to be Shinji. They shook hands. “Hello. Sorry for the inconvenience, Mr. Kazama, but as Mr. Takakura informed you earlier, we will be taking blood samples from all suspects, not just the ones we interviewed today.” “Of course, I understand. So there are more suspects?” “Yes, but they’re all highly unlikely to be our criminal.” “So I suppose I’m highly likely?” Shinji laughed. “Not exactly,” L said, casting a slightly suspicious look at Shinji. This man seemed like a different person now that L wasn’t interviewing him. During the interview, he was much different, maybe more nervous, though wasn’t everyone when the police questioned them? It was a normal reaction, even if he wasn’t the k1ller. But still... it was strange. He seemed lighter. Like he flipped a switch in his brain. “But I don’t think I should be giving away any more information to a suspect. I don’t want to lose my job.” “Of course, of course. Ah, speaking of which, I should probably get to my job before they demote me. Am I allowed to go?” “Ah, yes. Sorry to keep you waiting.” “It’s no problem at all, don’t worry. You have a nice day, Mr…..” “Ryuzaki.” “Ryuzaki. Nice meeting you, even if it was because you suspect me of mvrder.” L suspected him less and less. He did not seem the type that they were looking for. It could be anyone. ‘Do not let your guard down yet,’ L chastised himself. ‘It could be. You never know.’ The two interviewees in the lobby were released, free to go home. The police would continue investigating Makoto’s ex-husband. Shinji smiled to himself. They would never suspect a thing.
