|| Chapter 3, Sprout || I don’t know how or why it went wrong, but it did. It went wrong fast and oh so horribly. One moment, Cosmo’s shaking me awake, his face full of joy and relief. It’s the first time in a while that I’ve clearly seen his face, illuminated by the slowly growing bar of light coming from the elevator door. As he pulls me up, my tired mind processes what’s happening. Finally, the elevator’s open, and I can furiously rant about how Dandy’s a plain slice of overcooked cake for abandoning the only Toons that were there for him without bothering anyone for being too loud. And the next moment, everyone’s screaming and rushing out of the elevator and first I think it’s because they’re all excited to be free again. But then I hear a snarl and I whirl around to see something that barely resembles Eclipse practically hurling Gourdy toward my direction. I stumble backward a few feet from the recoil of catching the child, and I just barely hear Cosmo yelp over the chaos. He swiftly yet gently scoops Gourdy out of my arms, and its then that I notice his leg is completely covered in his own ichor. “You go bandage him up and calm everyone down, I’ll deal with Eclipse.” I insist, yet Cosmo still hesitates for a moment. “Okay, but be careful, alright? Don’t die on me.” He nods and I nod back but by then he’s already running out. Soulvester and Ribecca have Eclipse cornered somehow, but I can tell she won’t be for much longer. “Astro!” Try putting Eclipse to sleep!” I shout at him from across the elevator, who hasn’t moved since the last time I saw him. He pauses as his gaze shifts from me to Vee, who was still unconscious beside him. “I have a better idea, just trust me on this.” I hate how long he’s been taking, so I nod and let him do whatever he needs to do. I then turn to the other two Toons in the elevator and run over to them to help. The wolf has stopped snarling so loudly, which just barely allows me to eavesdrop on what Astro's saying. “Hey, Vee, sorry to bother you, but can you put Eclipse to sleep?” Vee stays silent, or at least stays quiet enough to where I can’t hear her, and a few moments later, Eclipse suddenly drops as if she died right there on the spot. Me, Soulvester, and Ribecca all stare at each other for a bit, and while the other two just seem relieved that it’s over, I feel even more troubled than before. How did he know she could do that? -----------------------------------------------------------------
