TW: death, sadness, grief, cat harm, gore. PLEASE TAKE CAUTION. Sora woke up, drowsy and unawares. She was in the forest. It was a cloudy day. “Sastrugi?” She called out. She was utterly alone. Absolutely. Alone. “Tru?” She tried, using her lover’s nickname this time. Her heart ached. “Ow…” she said, grasping her chest. After a bit of waiting, the pain eased. Somehow, the forest curled ahead. In the deepest ends. So she ran after it, feeling pulled. “Sastrugi? Are you there?” She called, again and again, hoping that Sastrugi would appear if she kept calling. Splish*! Sora’s paws tapped on a pool of water. Pristine. Clear and clean, as though it was polished by the clouds. She took a look into it. Oh. Oh no. She fell into the now deep puddle. “SASTRUGI!” She called, hoping her mate would save her. Closing her eyes, she accepted her fate. Except she didn’t die. She was still alive. And she appeared on the top again. Except now it was sunny. No clouds in sight. The forest was normal. So she kept walking. And she ended up at her house. “Maybe Tru’s around here somewhere….?” She asked herself, praying and wishing and hoping her lover would be. She tried to jump onto the top of her house. She couldn’t. And the most odd thing happened. She couldn’t even touch it. She couldn’t place a paw on the building her /true/ parent led her to as a kit. Or the place she confessed her love to Sastrugi at. Confused, she walked towards the tree Sastrugi so often sat at. There she was. “Sastrugi!” Sora called, smiling and crying. Sastrugi didn’t answer. She sat down and stared. “Sastrugi! Hey!” A voice called from behind her. And a golden cat fazed through her and towards Tru. “Sora!” Sora looked at the cats. What. Is. Happening. Sora curled her tail around Sastrugi, smiling and laughing. Sora looked up at the scene, still crying but with no smile anymore. Oh tides. This was a memory. Sora was dead. A lightning strike boomed as the world shifted to the forest. Sora watched as she left Sastrugi. And just after she had disappeared from Sastrugi’s view, she went to see what had happened to herself. Tides, this was confusing. Oh. Oh tides. She had heard about her father’s death. A twoleg shot a seed at him, and it killed him. Sora thought her death would be old age. She didn’t think it would be this gruesome. Thump*. Her eyes became blank. Her hind legs stilled. For a second, she was alive. She could feel the weight lift, the whole bottom half of her lifted off and she was free. She saw the twoleg walk away. A large, metal slab on a thick stick lay in the middle of her. Oh, how the world curled around her. Cradling her now lifeless body in its embrace. Why was she still here? Why didn’t she cry? Because. She wasn’t a good cat. She manipulated cats. Her mate. Sastrugi. She’s so, so sorry. She’s sorry. “I’m sorry.” Sora whispered, all of her memories wrapping around her. I hate you.
