|| Chapter 2, Gourdy || I hate the dark. I hate everything about it. The dark forms shapes of Toons I can’t remember and the shadows creep in to watch me. The light is what keeps me happy. It helps me see. It stops me from losing anyone else, just like how I lost… It doesn’t matter. Ribecca tells me I should stop worrying about things I had no control over, even though sometimes I can’t really help it. Anyway, it seems like forever since I’ve seen the light. That’s why I hate it so much here, wherever we are. Eclipse doesn’t like it either. When she’s in the dark, she turns into this giant werewolf that, I’ll admit, kind of scares me. It’s still much cooler than what I do, which is just glow. Soulvester says being in her werewolf form isn’t healthy. He says it could hurt her, just like how the dark hurts me. I don’t know how to help except be there for her, which seems to make her happy, but I can tell she’s still in pain. I wish everything could just go back to the way it used to be. Astro tells me it will be soon enough, I just have to be patient. The elevator will open any day now, and Eclipse will finally go back to normal. I really hope it’s true. I don’t know what I’d do if something happened to her… ‘ How did we get here? ’ I can’t help but wonder. Everyone remembers their time before the dark, even me, but there’s a gap in all of our memories that nobody seems to remember. I asked Vee before she got shut down to save her power, and she said she didn’t remember either, which I didn’t entirely believe. I mean, she’s a machine, right? I thought they were supposed to know and remember everything. “What if she lost her memory?” Toodles whispered with an excited grin. “Why would that happen, though?” I wondered aloud, and she just shrugged. Despite the question, I did think it seemed like a cool idea. Perhaps I’ll ask Rodger about it some time later. After what I can only assume to be a couple of days, something happened. The elevator stopped moving. And the doors slowly groaned open. And the light poured in. And everyone was stunned. And I leapt to my feet. And a wave of relief washed over us all. And conveniently, at that very moment, something snarled behind me, and teeth sank into my leg. -------------------------------------------------------------------------
