Our two dogs, Sparrow and Ravyn, have unique breed combinations and a wonderfully ironic story behind their names.Ravyn is an Australian Shepherd and Blue Heeler mix.Sparrow is a German Shorthaired Pointer, Black Labrador, and Cocker Spaniel mix.Interestingly, their appearance completely subverts expectations based on their names. While one might assume "Ravyn" describes a dark coat and "Sparrow" refers to a brown one, the opposite is true: Sparrow is the black dog, and Ravyn is the brown dog. This mix-up happened because of a twist of fate when adopting them. In his initial adoption photograph, Ravyn appeared to have a black coat, which inspired his name. Upon arrival, we discovered his coat was actually brown. However, the name had already stuck. When we later adopted Sparrow, we intentionally chose the name of a brown bird to complete the pair, resulting in our delightfully mismatched duo.
