|| Chapter 1, Dandy || Sick, sick, sick. Everything I’ve ever done these past few years has been sick; disgusting; vile. From the very beginning I lied to the only friends I’ve ever known, making them believe in something that could never be true. Arthur, Delilah, and the Toon Handlers weren't coming back. I read every single newspaper I could find in my desperation to find out why they left us, and that’s how I knew. I can’t even remember why I thought lying to them would be a good idea, but once you lie once, you’d better keep up the charade, right? So I let them believe that they were coming back. I let them cling to the rope of false hope like a lifeline, knowing that everything they believed in was anything but the truth. They saw me as a false god, and what had I done to deserve that? Then today, just mere moments ago, I trapped them in an elevator and sent them down to hell. What have I done..? As my legs began to wobble, I stumbled backward and fell onto the bench behind me, breathing heavily. My head pounded with the mistakes I’d made leading up to this terrible moment. My scratchy throat stung as disgust rose up from my stomach like a volcano, but I swallowed it down and slowed my panicked wheezing. All of those times that I thought this plan through, and /now/ is when I regret it? I’ve made it this far, and if I want to make it up to my friends, I have to follow through to the end. I drifted down the Main Toon hallway, slowing down at each room. Vee’s and Sprout’s rooms faced each other, while Shelly’s and Astro’s did the same later down the hallway. At the very end was mine and Pebble’s room, since he apparently wasn't big enough to warrant his own room. I felt a little bad about that, but hey, more time with Pebble was time well spent… My gut began to twist again, and I quickly entered my room before it could get any worse. Beside the doorway was a group photo of everyone. I can’t remember when it was taken, but judging by how everyone looks happy, I can only assume it was taken before the shutdown. And beside the photo are Shelly’s spare pair of goggles that she gave me. I put them on, careful not to bend my petals, and walked back through the corridor toward Delilah’s workshop, not noticing the air itself warping behind me. -------------------------------------------------------------------------
