Chapter 17 She saw a worn-out bicycle beside the dumpster; abandoned, probably going to be used as scrap metal. She peeked out of the alley, the motorcycles where closing in on her. She sighed and shrugged, facing the bicycle. "Why not?" She adjusted her weight on the seat of the bicycle and took deep breath drawing strength from within her. With that she began to pedal gradually picking up the pace and increasing speed. The motorcycles were still hot on her tail. She panted, taking frequent sharp turns and curves. After about 15 minutes, Liz's lungs were having a rebellion. She could barely breathe but she pushed harder pedalling as fast as she could. The men seemed to notice because they stepped on the gas and accelerated. Before she could catch her breath, two of the men were already in front of her and they were pulling up. Other two men, pulled up on either side of the bicycle. She was surrounded in front, behind and on either side. She stopped abruptly hoping to shake her off her tail but they stopped with her slowly closing in. She studied her surroundings and saw no obvious escape. A single, annoying thought popped into her mind. "If you can't find a way around your problem, go through it." She adjusted her weight on the seat of the bicycle. "Nowhere left to run." "Just give up, girl." Liz took a deep breath and pedals right for the man in front of her. Every sensible nerve and muscle in her mind screamed at her not to but her legs moved before her hands. She collided with the man in front of her, causing them both to roll of their vehicles. The man was sturdy and big so he didn't roll far but Liz was not so fortunate. Her skin was grazed against the tarred road. Concerning amount of red liquid gushed out of a wound on her hand. She tried to get up, immediately regretted that decision. She winced as pain shot through her numb legs, which were now, red from the impact. The men slowly approached Liz, she scooted as far away as she could; which was approximately 10 centimeters. "That's the most stupid thing I've ever seen", one mocked He reached for Liz but a voice stopped him from behind. "Don't touch the girl." "But-" "Just do as I say and I'll increase your pay by 20 dollars." Clearly satisfied, the man stepped back revealing the man whom the voice belonged to. He looked almost in his late 40s. He looked at Liz carefully before stepping closer and crouching in front of Elizabeth. Elizabeth leaned back, her back meeting the cool stone wall. The man looked at Liz carefully; her brown hair was disheveled, there was a small cut on her forehead from the collision, there was some red liquid splattered on her cheek. She was breathing hard and she looked at his movements sharply. Around her hands, there was a faint red glow which disappeared immediately but the man caught it. A grin cracked his expression. "I have a deal for you."
