Chapter 2 --------------- Milo just disappeared into the tree they looked alive. Darkness fell upon them. Skip was scared, but Molly stayed close, protecting him. Then, suddenly, a tree came crashing down. Skip pushed Molly out of the way just in time. “SKIP!!!!!” Molly howled. The tree landed on Skip. A humming noise filled the air. Then came the sound of drums. Molly's eyes began to glow golden, and stardust surrounded the fallen tree. Skip was still breathing, but he was badly wounded. Molly's power suddenly stopped. She rushed over and gently licked his sad face. “I’m always with you…” Skip heard Molly's whisper. Slowly, he opened his eyes. Everything around him was spinning. He tried to stand, but his legs felt weak. Molly helped him up and pulled him free from underneath the tree. Raindrops began falling. Heavy ones. Then they heard thunder. “The Storm of Dogs is arguing with Sky-Dog,” Skip whined. Molly's face went pale. “We'd better leave. We need to hide underground or in a cave before lightning strikes us.” They ran through the alive forest until they spotted a small hole beneath a tree. Molly squeezed through. Skip tried to follow, but he couldn't fit. “Hurry up! The black, yellow-eyed Wolf will find us!” Molly whined. She was panicking. She could smell them. Skip quickly dug around the entrance and squeezed himself through the hole. They ran underground as fast as they could. Above them, the wolf arrived. They searched the area, hoping to find something to eat. “We are still starving, pack,” growled their Alpha. “But we tried so hard, Flame!” a female Greyhound howled. “We haven't searched enough, Beta!” Flame snapped. Beta's sister spoke up. “We're just not looking hard enough, Beta.” She sighed. “You'd better start searching harder, Sweet!” Flame growled. Sweet and Beta sighed. They looked disappointed. They didn't want to upset their Alpha, but it wasn't their fault. “We'd better start searching for the Wild Pack!” barked a Border Collie named Moon. Her brother, Stickchaser, didn't look happy. The Wild Pack were only teenagers. They were trying to survive. Or were they? They must have been like Molly and Skip, trying to survive after the Big Growl. Underneath the ground, Skip whispered, “We should ask them to join their pack… or we could ask them to join our pack?” Molly frowned. “We can't trust them. We never know what they might do!” she growled softly. Skip still felt bad for them. They were still young. Maybe they deserved a chance. Skip knew he was still being stupid. But he decided to give them one chance.
