|| Prologue/Pilot, Vee || My mechanical head throbs as I open my eyes, only to find a cold, dark room awaiting me. I'm on the floor with my back against the wall, and I hear a low hum that's either coming from me or some other machine in this room. From what I do see with the dim light from my screen, I’m surrounded by corpses. Or at least, that’s what they looked like, but upon further inspection I realized that they were in fact breathing. Where am I? What’s happening? What happened? Various thoughts swirl through my mind, and while my mind is distracted, something thinks it’s the perfect time to touch me, and I nearly jump out of my skin. “Vee, calm down, it’s just me.” A voice whispers from beside me, and I recognize who it is immediately. “Astro? What’re you doing here? And where even is ‘here?’” I whisper-yell, my eyes casting an eerie green glow onto his face. The dim star replacing his eye peers back at me. “I don’t know. I woke up a little while before you did.” Astro replied with a barely noticeable shrug. It was then that I noticed something off about him. “Your blanket’s gone.” I breathed, grimacing at my unexpected tone. “Yeah, it was getting hot, and besides, it’s too dark for anyone to see me, and by the time they can I’ll already have my blanket back on.” I nod slowly, making a second attempt at looking around. The doors to Dandy’s Shop are closed, and a couple of Toons are piled on top of them. The mention of the flower’s name sends a rigid shiver up my back, and I quickly shift my gaze somewhere else. Now that I notice it, there are multiple piles of Toons laying around, but some, like me and Astro, are more spread out. It makes me wonder whether the spacing was intentional or not, but of course, there’s no way to confirm anything right now. Suddenly, the floor itself seems to drop out from beneath me for a few seconds before it lurches to a stop and continues its gradual descent. “Do you know where we’re going?” I ask Astro, realizing that we are in fact in an elevator. However, through the dark, I see him shake his head, and I let out a quiet sigh. The question pulls me into another spiral of notes and wonders, and Astro simply leaves me to it. Somewhere above, a world crumbles, and a new one begins to grow in its place. -------------------------------------------------------------------------
