The disappearance of the federation light freighter ESS Cantenia has caused immediate concern. Eusa, unaware of the attack being caused by the Ruk (due to the belief that the war has ended) has mostly concluded that upon further investigation that the freighter was likely destroyed by pirates. During early investigations of its sudden disappearance it was predetermined that if the Cantenia was destroyed she would lose all hands, due to the ship being in deep space. 1 day later 2 S&R vessels were initially deployed to the last known location of the ESS Cantenia before deploying FTL capable scout craft squadrons. After days of searching an unusual debris field was discovered. It was concluded this was likely the wreckage (or at least what's left of) the Cantenia. Upon this discovery search for the source of its destruction began with it being concluded that it was attacked by pirates. People demand action. And it is an action they shall get. In 0081 IE the Eusan Congress officially approved of Emergency Resolution 102 908, ordering for all new class of freighters to have limited Point Defense Capabilities, as well as the adoption of convoy tactics. No Eusan Freighter is to work alone, all operations would work with groups of 6 or more. The resolution ordered for the immediate expansion of the military industrial complex to begin construction of newer modern warship with more accurate PDCs, interceptors, etc as well as the immediate replacement of older outdated starships with newer more modern ones. As well as upgrade packages for older starships if replacement is not an option. This is admittedly not much of a problem for Eusa, it is a post scarcity egalitarian society (of course it's got its issues but you know) and replacement isn't much of an issue. Much of the military is automated. One may even be as bold to claim the federation may have THE best industry in the galaxy (a woefully incorrect statement but it is definitely on the list). The main problem is training. Due to the moral issues of a 100% automated army (and its short comings) a good chunk of starship are in fact crewed, retraining older commanders and crew members on how to use newer technology would be too difficult. Thus even if the federation can replace its ships quickly, it has been a slow process. While initially recruitment into the military was slow, the attack on the Cantenia has caused a rise in recruitment (mostly thanks to patriotic or nationalistic beliefs) which has given the Federation a new wave of recruits to train and deploy. The main issue is the lack of experience, it has been decades since the Federation has actually fought a true conflict and it left the Federation with a false sense of over confidence. This will prove disastrous in the future.
UPE MADE SOMETHING OF DECENT QUALITY!?!?! OMG!!! :OOOOOO
