Chapter 16 The streetlight tilted till it and began to fall. Everything happened in a flash, nobody had time to move. Liz closed her eyes and her hands rose instinctively as if they could somehow shield her from the impact. One...Two...Three...Four...Five...... Twenty. Liz opened her eyes to find the streetlight suspended in the air, just short of falling in top of her. Her hands were surrounded with the same red glow as the streetlight. Liz stared. Maria Wimble stared. The armed men stared. Jessica stared. Everyone was staring until Liz dropped her hands to her sides and the streetlight slowly compressed as if being pushed at both sides by some invisible force. The streetlight then burst into sparks of metal. Liz's breathing was shallow as she began to feel a strange weakness overcome her but now was not the time to feel tired. Maria Wimble's attention was now fixed directly on her and she murmured, "So you do have the red trinket?" Before Liz could explain, Maria Wimble had already given the order to the armed men standing there to catch Liz. Liz took to her heels. To be honest, she had no idea why she was running. But hey, who cared? Liz run across the street occasionally bumping into a few people. Some called after her, others hurled insults and warnings to slow down at her but Liz wasn't listening. The men who were pursuing her had now climbed onto motorcycles and rode after her. Liz branched into an alley and hid behind a smelly dumpster overflowing with residues of leftover food. She caught her breath. Technically, it was impossible to outrun a speeding motorcycle. Especially not with the manpower of a 14 year old girl. She looked frantically for anything that might aid her in the situation she was being faced with. She saw a worn-out bicycle beside the dumpster; abandoned, probably going to be used as scrap metal. She peeked out of the alley, the motorcycles where closing in on her. She sighed and shrugged, facing the bicycle. "Why not?"
