We now swing to Fox's feature animation studio (or at least one of many), 20th Century Fox Animation! Name History: Fox Animation Studios (1996-2008) Fox Animation Studios - West Hollywood Unit (1996-2001; alternate name) 20th Century Fox Animation (2008-present) Short History: Jay Ward Productions, then a division of News Corp USA, was split into three in 1996, with its theatrical arm becoming Fox Animation Studios. Caleb Elbourn, Jay Ward Productions' last president automatically became the first president of Fox Animation Studios. From 1996 to 2001, the main studio in West Hollywood, California was called the "West Hollywood Unit". In 2001, AOL, Inc. would merge with News Corp USA forming AOL News Corp. Caleb Elbourn would also leave the studio that same year to establish his own animation studio, CE Entertainment. 20th Century Fox's head of family entertainment, Chris Melandari took over as president. 3 years in 2004, Fox Animation Studios ditched 2D animated films and transitioned into making CG animated films. Similar to Elbourn, Melandari left in 2007 to form Illumination. James Sharp, who was then the president of Saban Animation became the studio's next president. AOL News Corp's name was altered in 2008 to News Corp AOL. That same year, Fox Animation Studios renamed itself to 20th Century Fox Animation. News Corp AOL later changed its name to Fox Media in 2013 as a way to emphasize its flagship assets which included 20th Century Fox, which owns 20th Century Fox Animation. James Sharp was fired in 2015 following criticisms of workplace harassment. Chris Wedge, co-president of Blue Sky Studios (a sister company to 20th Century Fox Animation), was chosen as his replacement. Since 2015, Wedge currently serves as the studio's president. 20th Century Fox Animation's mascot since 2007 is Lady Vixella. Lady Vixella, an anthropomorphic swordswoman fox, is the main character of the Vixella series of films, and she's appeared in the company's logo since 2019.
