History in 1943, world war 2 was happening. Las Palma, being on the coast needed to defend itself, so construction started for a naval base. When world war 2 finished, the island wasn't finished, so instead of stopping the project, they looked for what else they could use the uncompleted island for. Eventually, the city council decided on an airport because Las Palma didn't have one, and still wanted to defend themselves. in honor of the Tuskegee airmen, they named the airbase Tuskegee airbase. in the 1950s, when air traffic became more common, it became Tuskegee airport. the 1956 mayoral election came up, and the new mayor changed the name to dhillan nag airport, after his stepfather. this stayed until today, but in 1990 a museum opened up teaching the history of aviation, and the airport.
