See You On The Other Side (Through The Looking Glass) Amelia Stone, 35 Guess who’s back? Me, it’s me, I’m back, hi! Amelia Stone in the flesh (that phrase is so weird). “Hi, Mom.” Well, Amelia’s mom, not mine. Amelia’s Mommy. Even after, she’s the one thing I regret. Not meeting Celine Stone. The amazing, superhero Mommy Celine Stone. Celine Stone, 1975-2008, a great friend, the best mother, and an amazing woman. I sigh. “Now, I know I say this like every time and you’re probably sick of me but I’m sorry. I’m so sorry I—” a sob tears through me, “I tried, I really did. I tried.” I’m lying on my back on the grass, my head nested on my right arm. A small breeze blows through, playing with my hair. “I know, I miss her too.” I turn to lay on my side, facing the tree beside the grave. Something rustles in the leaves, jumping around. Is that…a monkey? What in the world? The creature shoots straight for me, flies straight for me. It’s a bird. A jumping monkey bird. I scream as it barely misses me with its four claws. Four claws. What a joke. I shudder as I lay back down, “Right, anyways. How is Livvie you ask? Yeah, she’s great. For real this time, not like that incident. A little stressed, baby shower coming soon!” The leaves rustle again, this time from the wind. “Emma and Iris are, well…Emma and Iris. Hopefully they sort things out soon. Other than that… “Ooh, ooh yes! It’s a boy by the way,” my eyes widen as I sit up and I look around before whispering, “But don’t tell Livvie I said that, I’m the only one that knows.” I glance at my watch, “Oh shoot, I gotta go, can’t keep the pregnant lady waiting!” My bag whooshes in the air as I sling it over a shoulder, “Seeya next week, Mom!” Mimi’s Mom. “Livvie? Hi! Sorry, I think I’ll be there in another 5-ish minutes.” A crackle of a plastic bag in the background. She forgot, didn't she? “Be where?” Her voice comes through muffled, her mouth probably stuffed with Lays “The coffee shop, Livvie,” I laugh. “Oh. Ohhh of course yeah no, take your time girl I’ll just be here uhh…waiting for you.” “Uh huh, seeya in half an hour, Liv.” She sounds sheepish, “Seeya.” Well, 30 minutes with coffee and a breeze doesn’t sound too bad. “Yes?” “I’ll have the medium latte, oat milk please.” Recently found out I’m lactose intolerant. Amelia wasn’t but according to Google ‘Yes, you can develop lactose intolerance later in life’ soo. I turn around to survey the completely full tables. “Sorry miss,” the barista says as she hands me the warm paper cup, “Only table we got is outside.” “It’s perfect, thanks.” As I sit, I see Lucas’s car pull into the driveway. Of course. And I turn to see Amelia in the window, looking...surprised. Is she—I—what? But she seems to recover faster than I do. Amelia Stone waves at me, and I wave back.
