idk how hot/cold/lukewarm there are so i'm not gonna label them; i don't really have all that many though TT OPINIONS ONLY! feel free to disagree but please don't cause drama or start hate because of that. #1: i dont rlly like when people ask if anyone wants to be ceo of their company okay so first off this is NOT saying you shouldn't do that, i'm not gonna hold it against u. JUST MY OPINION. in my opinion, if you create a company, you should be the one to run it; if someone else is the ceo and making all the decisions, what's the point in you being the one to create the acc? and on the other hand, if the ceo doesn't do anything or doesn't have much of a role, what's the point in asking for one? it just seems like you want an excuse to be under your own company but still have the company (btw you CAN be under your own company, no one minds that much unless you're in like every group and it's just an excuse to be in a group with someone famous) #2: companies only accepting popular people i think this is definitely a thing that happens, and it can be for a number of reasons that i won't go into. i agree that when it does happen, it feels disappointing for honestly, both the people rejected and me. the people who don't get in because of this are angry for good reason that they were rejected simply because the others were more popular; and on top of feeling like this is unfair, i might start questioning whether i got in because of my voice or because i was popular. i know of multiple companies that don't do this, however, and focus just on your talent when evaluating auditions. i do that myself in my own company. #3: venting in spop i think that venting should be allowed on scratch, as long as you don't say anything super graphic or that goes against the tos. however, a LOT of people in this comm, as many others have said, are pretty young and/or aren't equipped to help you; none of us are mental health professionals. so imo, it should be kept out of the MAIN STUDIO. there are comms specifically made for venting, which would be probably a better place to do it. and if you vent in the main comm just because there's more people around to see it, that isn't the purpose of a vent. #4: thumbs / aesthetics like it or not, it's pretty much a fact that the most popular s-poppers tend to have either very "aesthetic" thumbnails, or a very consistent style of thumb that is less aesthetic. as much as i wish this wasn't a thing, it's natural to like an aesthetic thumb more than a chaotic one, and it's not something i see going away anytime soon. however, i do see a lot of people saying that people who complain about this should just learn to make their own, and while that's a valid suggestion, it's NOT as easy as it may look. as someone who is decidedly not good at making aesthetic thumbs, i wouldn't even know where to start to make something like or even i wish there was more spop content about thumbs / being aesthetic so that people who want aesthetic thumbs actually have some guidance on how to get them. : katseye i PERSONALLY don't like katseye's musical direction at all. that's up to you whether you agree with me or not. but the point i'm more angry about, rather than their music, is their marketing. katseye, despite making music videos like whatever hooti frutti was, is very much being marketed to tweens and early teens. they built this fanbase during dream academy and SIS, with a concept much more geared towards that age group- the dream charms, their appearance at the kids' choice awards, etc. but it really does feel like they were only waiting for all the members to be adults in the western world. i'm pretty sure korea (or maybe other countries in asia too, i'm fairly confident on korea but not the others) considers adult age at 20, so there yoonchae isn't even an adult. but it doesn't seem like geffen cares about aligning their new target audience - likely older teens and young adults - with their current audience. that younger fanbase from SIS still exists; and what's worse is that the parents of these kids might not even know about the concept change. how often do you sit down and watch a music video with your parents? i wonder how many 10-12 year olds were watching the hooti fruitti music video and liking it. katseye needs to choose a fanbase and stick with it. they can't release music for one audience and promote for another. i don't care which direction they go, i just need them to pick any direction at all. #6: company group trends i would need more than both my hands to count the amount of tuide lookalike groups that popped up immediately after sunkiss came out. i understand the reason behind doing this- you can capitalize on the novelty of tuide's debut and get people to join your group- but there are still numerous problems. for one, the sheer amount of groups with the same lookalike could make your own audition flop if you're not already established. and another: how many of those groups actually end up making it to debut? when opening a company, i'd advise not to do this; instead, come up with an idea for the group first, then choose a lookalike that will allow you to do the most with the group's concept in terms of pictures of the group. and PLEASE don't open a company just to have auditions for a group with a new lookalike and then never post results. if you're going to open one, commit to it. #7: managers' duties GUYS IF YOU'RE A MANAGER AND YOU SEE SOMEONE FILL OUT THE FORM JST INVITE THEM U HAVE THE PERMISSION TO <3 #8: companies in general i may sound like an old boomer unc when i say this but i feel like there's too many companies in s-pop. there's almost as many companies now as there are active idols (that i know of) and it feels like the industry is lowk oversaturated </3 this isn't to say you shouldn't open one, but i just feel sometimes like the same few people audition for every single group, and i see the same few names on every member announcement. #9: group lookalikes i feel like group lookalikes should not matter as much as they do. i see tons of people, when they make a group, ONLY cover songs by that group. and while i definitely see the reasoning behind it, there's so much more musical territory you can cover, and so much more room for creativity, when you cover songs by other groups, or even western pop songs. you can still use photos of the group, and you can maintain the concept better. plus, if the group is new (see point #6 about tuide) you'll quickly run out of songs, and then you'll have to wait for the group to have a comeback, during which time your own group could likely disband. thank you guys pls dont cancel me (i mean or cancel me, it's up to you in the end)
