1. Hachiware's Pitfall Arc (Hachiware Falls into a Hole)Plot Summary: During a monster-extermination mission, Hachiware accidentally falls into a deep pit. Upon discovering this, a worried Chiikawa tries everything he can to rescue him, eventually using a vine tied to a tree to reach down into the cave.Touching Highlights: Just as Hachiware is about to climb out of the cave, Chiikawa realizes that Hachiware left his beloved extermination staff (Sasumata) at the bottom of the pit. Knowing that Hachiware had saved up money for a very long time to buy it, Chiikawa jumps back down into the hole without hesitation to retrieve it. This arc perfectly showcases their sincere friendship that transcends danger, and the scene of Hachiware crying tears of gratitude has become iconic.2. Weeding Certification Exam ArcPlot Summary: After Hachiware spots a study guide for the Level 5 Weeding Certification Exam at Chiikawa's house, the two promise to study and take the exam together. They agree that no matter the result, they will go out for ramen afterward. The Bitter and The Sweet: When the results of the first exam come out, Hachiware passes, but Chiikawa unfortunately fails. Although happy for his own success, Hachiware feels a deep sense of sadness and heartache seeing how devastated Chiikawa is. However, Chiikawa never gives up. After years of hard studying and multiple failed attempts, he finally passes the Level 5 exam in a later chapter, moving fans worldwide to tears and celebration! The Hidden Genius: Usagi, who usually acts wild and chaotic, suddenly pulls out a highly difficult Level 3 Weeding Certificate while the other two are still struggling to study for Level 5 (and he even passes Level 2 later on), revealing himself to be a hidden genius.3. The Little Beetle Arc (The Beetle?)Plot Summary: Chiikawa finds a cute, soft, little green beetle on the road that makes "iya" sounds. The trio gets along wonderfully with it—eating sweets and playing together during a period of pure, healing bliss. The Dark Twist: This arc is a prime example of Chiikawa's signature "sugar-coated poison" storytelling style. As the plot unfolds, it is revealed that this little beetle is actually a Mimic-type monster (the larval form of a giant chimera). It eventually reveals its brutal nature, even preying on another creature right in front of Chiikawa. Chiikawa is forced to face reality and say goodbye to this once-beloved "friend," making it a deeply depressing and terrifyingly thought-provoking arc.4. Pajama Party ArcPlot Summary: Chiikawa, Hachiware, and Usagi wear their handmade green, blue, and pink pajamas, eating daifuku, singing, and dancing under the moonlight. They even plan to perform on stage at a large talent show, creating a truly dreamlike atmosphere.Sudden Crisis: Just as the party reaches its climax, a giant Mimic-type monster (known as Ano Ko / "That Kid") suddenly appears and kidnaps other small creatures wearing the same pajamas! To save their friends, Hachiware and Chiikawa engage in a battle that is both brutal and whimsical, spanning between the stage and the battlefield. It stands out as a high-stakes, long-form arc in the anime.5. Prison Arc (Ode and the Prison)Plot Summary: The trio, along with a green humanoid creature named Ode, are unexpectedly captured by a wicked tribe of Goblins and thrown into the underground dungeon of the Goblin Kingdom.Plot Development: Inside the prison, the Goblins serve seemingly delicious food (like stews and bread) every day. However, this hides a terrifying conspiracy to fatten up the small creatures before eating them. At one point, the ever-optimistic Hachiware even makes a hilariously relaxed, "evil enjoyment face" while enjoying the prison life. In the end, the powerful Ode sacrifices himself to hold off the Goblins, allowing Chiikawa and his friends to successfully break out of prison and regain their freedom.
